Daniel Libeskind - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Daniel Libeskind, (born May 12, 1946 in Łódź, Poland) is an architect who rocketed to fame in 2003 after receiving a commission to create the master plan for the reconstruction of the World Trade Center.
One of the leading contemporary architects of today, Daniel Libeskind is the son of Holocaust survivors and became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1965.
Libeskind thumbed his nose at a request to place it in a more rentable location next to the World Trade Center (PATH station) and instead placed it a block west because in profile it would line up and resemble the Statue of Liberty.

 Libeskind Design WTC
Libeskind's design, focusing on the pit and its bleak walls, has sustained a groundswell of support that began almost as soon as it was unveiled in December.
Libeskind is likely to focus on the memorial area, preparing guidelines for the memorial competition, which is scheduled to begin in the next couple of months.
Libeskind featured two ground-level parks as well, one of which is positioned to capture a wedge of sunlight each year on Sept. 11, from the time that the first plane hit the trade center's north tower until the time that tower fell, the second of the two to collapse.

 The New Yorker: Fact
Libeskind made it clear that he was prepared to walk off the project, which would have embarrassed both the L.M.D.C. and Pataki, whose support was crucial to Libeskind’s selection, and who has pledged to start construction on the tower by next year, when the Republicans come to town for their Presidential Convention.
Libeskind applied to Cooper Union, partly because it was in New York City and tuition-free, and partly because the dean of its architecture school, John Hejduk, had made it a center for the kind of theoretical exploration of architecture that Libeskind was looking for.
Libeskind didn’t tell his wife that he was increasingly unhappy at Cranbrook, thinking she enjoyed it, and she didn’t tell him that she, too, was miserable.

Daniel Libeskind Studio Weil Mallorca for Artist Barbara Weil
Libeskind describes it as "landscape as house and house as artistic landscape", and Weil says it is a "space for contemplation, domestic reverie and presentation of artworks".
Studio Weil, built for about $720,000 (£433,000), is a brave and remarkable structure and a fascinating example of creative synergy between two artists who, unknowingly, had shared something like a common approach to visual form long before Libeskind became news.
Studio Weil is, indeed, a curious and special place; it is also a fitting home for an artist who thrives on ambiguity, designed by an architect who does the same.

These emotional designs tend to resonate with public audiences, yet Libeskind's projects are often stalled or altered by developers who do not share his vision, contractors who have difficulty translating them into a reality, and critics who balk at their expense and their affect on the skyline.

Studio Daniel Libeskind, headed by the Paul Philippe Cret Professor of Architecture, submitted a proposal that includes a 1,575-foot tower, which would be the world’s tallest structure if built, two public parks and a museum in addition to office and retail space.
Libeskind, who immigrated to New York from Poland as a teenager, said he was motivated to enter the design competition by his sense of loyalty to the city.
The challenge, Libeskind said, was to reconcile two seemingly irreconcilable values: the desire to leave the WTC site open out of respect for the memory of those who died on Sept. 11 and the desire to replace the fallen towers with a similarly iconic structure that would define the skyline.
