Topic: Styracaceae

  PBIO 450 Lecture Notes - Dilleniidae -- Spring 1999
While the Symplocaceae fall next to Theaceae (they share the feature of stamens in fascicles), and Styracaceae is next to Clethraceae in the rbcL data, the Sapotaceae are just as close, and the Ebenaceae are not all that far removed.
There is general agreement that the Sapotaceae are related to Styracaceae and both have a thealean origin.
This is in contrast to plants referred to Styracaceae which have stellate hairs or peltate scales and flowers with linear to oblong anthers.
