	SUSE Linux - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The SUSE Linux distribution was originally a German translation of Slackware Linux.
		This change in philosophy led to the release of the SUSE Linux 10.0 release on October 6, 2005 in "OSS" (completely opensource), "eval" (has both open source and proprietary applications and is actually a fully-featured version) and retail boxed-set editions.
		SUSE has the ability to detect and install drivers for many common winmodems shipped with OEM desktop and laptop systems (such modems are designed to use Windows-specific software to operate).

		SUSE Linux has long been among the best desktop GNU/Linux distributions in terms of features, ease of use, included software, hardware support, user support, documentation, and quality of design.
		SUSE uses the Windows-like KDE desktop environment as its default, but is perfectly integrated with the GNOME environment as well.

		The Suse Linux OSS 10 installation was a walk in the park provided that you went with most of the defaults offered.
		The Linux kernel shipping with Suse Linux OSS 10 is version 2.6.13-15-default and the version of xorg is X Window System Version 6.8.2 which is exactly the same version as shipped with Suse Linux Professional 9.3 back in April 2005.
		During my installation of Suse Linux OSS 10, I manually configured X and told it I wanted 1400x1050 resolution, but it completely ignored what I asked for and decided 1280x1024 was more appropriate.

		Having used SUSE 9.1 for a while now, I was more than looking forward to this new release, so I downloaded and ran SUSE 9.2 LiveCD on my Dell Inspiron, and gave it a try.
		SUSE, which has switched with this release to X.org, started X with the generic nVidia modules flawlessly, and I was soon staring at the all-too-familiar KDE desktop, with the some what naive desktop wallpaper SUSE seems to prefer.
		Mind you, SUSE was painfully slow to start on my box, especially when compared with Knoppix or Kanotix on the same hardware.
