SubEthaEdit is unusual in allowing each intervention to have a separate author, but this kind of representation of a document is quite normal internal to a program - it is called the “Undo History” or “History,” and it is present in everything from simple text editors to large multimedia applications like Dreamweaver or Photoshop.

Really, it is more the case the SEE uses the Cocoa text editing subsystem which provides those features automatically.
It is simply the case that I follow the emacs way of editing text, which is incompatible with BBEdit.
Fortunately for me, Cocoa's text editing subsystem also follows the emacs way (likely because the original developers of the AppKit used emacs) and, as a Cocoa App, SubEthaEdit (and TextEdit, for that matter) offer a text editing experience that is compatible with my text editing muscle memory.

The opening up of the SubEthaEdit protocol would be a way to encourage development of other, compatible applications, which in turn will only lead to increased use of the SubEthaEdit program itself.
By opening the SubEthaEdit protocol, the CodingMonkeys will provide a valuable resource to the community, while making their applicatoin far ahead of the game both in cross platform compatibility - which will become important - and UI, which it has already proven itself to be well in control of.
For this reason, we respectfully request that the protocol SubEthaEdit uses to communicate is made public, so that the community at large, as well as the CodingMonkeys in particular, can benefit from this protocol and the applications derived from it.
