Myanmar (Burma) is divided into 14 administrative subdivisions, which include 7 states (pyi-neh) and 7 divisions (taing).
The subdivisions are further divided into districts, which in turn are divided into townships that comprise of towns, wards villages.
In 1900, Burma was a province of British India, and was divided into two subdivisions: Lower Burma, whose capital was Rangoon, and Upper Burma, whose capital was Mandalay.
