  Buck-O-Nine Band Reviews
Dont let this album or review taint your image of a band that has never let me down at a show and if they are ever in your area pick up a ticket immediately.
Buck-O-Nine have been one of my favorite bands for a long time, ever since my brother came home with one from a trip of their early CDs back when he was in eighth grade (hes now a senior in high school).
I like the vocals a lot although the lyrics are somewhat weak, and they dont overuse chord changes like most bands of this genre seem to.

His world-weary drawl is pervasive throughout the album, with an honesty that belies his age (Adams was 22 at the time of recording, but many of the songs were written well before then).
Credit must also be given to violinist and vocalist Caitlin Cary, whose good old-time fiddle sings above the rest of the band's crash and swagger, and whose vocal harmonies help to soothe Adams' gritty yowls and croons.
One sure indicator of the notorious volatility of the band lies in the liner notes that read "This time Whiskeytown were as follows...," showing the signs of unrest that quickly burned out those around Adams' lifestyle and temperament.

  purevolume™ | Sublime
The story of Sublime is full of sad, strange twists, but this is perhaps the strangest: Since frontman Brad Nowell overdosed before his band became a phenomenon, before he had a chance to become a bona fide rock star, his death has been oddly free of the mythic impact of so many rock star flameouts.
Sublime's success has come as a slow-building surprise, rather than in a rush of mourning, and it's been based on the sweet fun Nowell cooked up during his too-short 28-year love affair with punk, hip-hop, reggae and whatever other music he could lay his hands on.
Sublime were a party band, they played house parties, beach parties, frat parties; and if there wasn't a party, they brought one with them.

Sublime is a mixture of music, mainly due to front man Bradley Nowell's diverse imput on the band's material.
The band missed oppurtunities such as when they were supposed to play a KROQ party with Bush and Hole, they printed out 40 backstage passes for friends, and dogs.
Sublime and Bad Religion were the featured artists at the Band Aid III benefit show for Lifebeat (a fundraising organization for AIDS research) at Bear Mountain, California.

Window Jewelry - Curtain Accents from Aileen Minor American Antiques
If the decorative pins and bands that were used to hold back curtains in the 19th century look more like jewelry than practical hardware, attribute the glamour to a bit of celebrating.
Band designs became fancier, morphing into hands, for example, or a flower, with the stem holding the curtain.
Bands were correctly attached vertically or horizontally, rather than diagonally.

Sublime - Biography - AOL Music
Formed in Long Beach, CA, in 1988 as a garage punk band, Sublime grew to fame in the mid-'90s on the back of the Cali punk explosion engendered by Green Day and the Offspring, though Sublime mixed up their punk rage with reggae and ska influences.
It was Sublime's last, however, as lead singer Brad Nowell died in May 1996, just two months before the album's release.
Mostly due to the radio exposure, Sublime signed to MCA for 1994's Robbin' the Hood, which revealed an experimental ethic more in keeping with cut-and-paste dub than the well-tuned rage of the Cali punk revival.

So you've got to hand it to Badfish, and, of course, the band it fetes, Southern California punk/reggae band Sublime, for upping the ante.
Sublime peaked just as it released its third album and leader Brad Nowell overdosed on heroin and died.
The group has carved out quite a career for itself in the wake of a band that might well have been relegated to another decade's ephemeral pleasures.

Sublime! :: The Curb :: Skunk Records
Sublime's blend of reggae, hip-hop, punk and pop was first heard on 1992's "40 Oz.
Then "Sublime," the group's major label debut for MCA Records, was issued July 30, 1996, and became an instant classic on alternative rock radio stations around the country thanks to the songs "What I Got," "Santeria" and "Wrong Way." The label was hesitant to release an album of a defunct band, Gaugh says,
The creative spirit that catapulted Sublime from Long Beach locals to worldwide phenomenon lives on in the two former members and Brad's son, Jakob, who was 11 months old when his father passed away.

The re-release of this album launched the beginning of Sublime’s career, only to be cut short after their next release due to one of the factors that made Brad Nowell the original character he was.
For an artist or band to portray such a unique message through their music is not an easy task, yet Sublime seems to have done it with ease and clarity.
Sublime is considered one of the greatest bands of the 1990s, but I think that this category just doesn’t suit the ideals of the band.

The album was a large success, and despite the death of Bradley, the band released many more albums of unreleased material, including "Second Hand Smoke"(1997), which contained many remixes and different versions of their already hit songs.
Sublime is still widely listened too among many different people, young and old, and is famous for their "Skunk" (Ska mixed with Punk), style.

I am not sure if the band is a trio reflecting the original Sublime setup, or if they are actually an incognito quartet, but there was a fourth person playing keys and the trumpet to about 50 percent of the songs.
I know Sublime did some keys/trumpet stuff on their studio tracks and I assume that’s what the boys of Badfish were going for; however it was not evident if the fourth person was a sit in guest or a permanent member of the Badfish team.
Towards the end of the show, as the band was busting out “Daterape,” they decided to let the females in the audience on stage so they could strut their stuff.

The production is ill. This band is just too sick and millions of other music listeners would agree according to sales before, and since, the band's untimely dissolution.
While Bradley passed away during the recording of the Sublime self-titled album, that would become the album to propel Sublime to a international listenership, the music went on to inspire millions and help to re-introduce, and introduce, many to Long Beach reggae, punk, surf and hip-hop soul.

The Guide -- ‘Long Beach’ Show Lacks Enthusiasm
The group, sprung from the surviving members of legendary ska band Sublime, has released very good record material extending on what Sublime’s work by adding a heavy layer of dub (hence the name) to their music.
The tragic paradox in all of this, assuming that the bass player was indeed as dazed as he seemed to be, is that Nowell died of a heroin overdose.
Thus it seems ironically appropriate that the band would uphold (and let itself be mired in) the institution of decadence that is responsible for its very success.

When a band ends in death or tragedy, it's natural for fans to want the music they loved to live on.
When California dub-punk trio Sublime ended with the death of singer/guitarist Bradley Nowell, New England trio Badfish - the moniker coming from a Sublime song of the same name - adopted Sublime's music almost by accident and now tour throughout the country spreading the band's infectious sound.
Sublime's origins date back to 1988 when Nowell, drummer Floyd "Bud" Gauigh and bassist Eric Wilson began mixing reggae rhythms, ska energy and punk attitude in the band's hometown of Long Beach, Calif. After founding the indie record label Skunk Records, the band released "40 oz.
