Subtending in a Direct Connect Configuration
Subtending allows you to use one ATM backbone for multiple Cisco 6100/6130 chassis.
Subtending is a Cisco 6100 Series system feature that reduces the cost per subscriber by amortizing the expense of the network interface module and the edge switch port connection over a large number of subscribers.
You can subtend up to six Cisco 6100/6130s to one subtending host Cisco 6100/6130 that is connected to the ATM network backbone (refer to Figure 5-1).

A close look also reveals that the tepal subtending the stamen is 'bearded', a mark of Eurasian elements of the genus.
As the pistillate inflorescences mature, the distinctive perigynia (a green 'bag' that encloses the ovary) of this genus are evident.
This species is marked by reduction of bracts subtending the inflorescences, mixture of staminate and pistillate flowers, and relatively compressed or flattened perigynia.

 Ch 5:Configuring Subtending Systems
Subtending is a DSLAM feature that reduces the cost per subscriber by amortizing the expense of the network interface module and the edge-switch port connection over a large number of subscribers.
You can subtend several Cisco DSLAMs to one subtending host Cisco DSLAM that is connected to the ATM network backbone (which is illustrated in Figure 5-1).
Cisco recommends that you provision transit subscribers on the subtend ports of the host Cisco DSLAM for each of the subscribers that are provisioned on the subtended ports.

The plurality of holes, perforations, or other substrate subtending paths 121, in one embodiment, are substantially parallel to each other and substantially perpendicular to substantially parallel surfaces of the substrate.
Highly conductive path 114 is interwoven with a single layer substrate or a multilayer substrate, such as substrate 103 in combination with magnetic film layers 112 and 113, to form an inductive element that is at least partially embedded in the substrate.
The purpose of insulating layers 215 and 218, which in one embodiment are dielectrics, is to electrically isolate the surface conducting segments of highly conductive path 203 from magnetic material layers 206 and 209.

The addition of integrated cross-connect matrices and subtending ring functionality allows service providers to effectively reduce equipment size, power and costs while meeting subscribers' growing service demands.
A subtending ring is an advanced dual-ring configuration in which a node's tributary optics support a secondary ring, offering substantial cost savings by allowing a single network element to be used in place of multiple co-located shelves.
Subtending rings eliminate entire racks of equipment while maintaining equivalent network element functionality and visibility.
