"Subterranean Homesick Blues" is a song written by Bob Dylan originally released on the album Bringing It All Back Home in 1965.
Most famously, the song's lyrics were cited as inspiration by the American Maoist group the Weathermen, (a breakaway from the Students for a Democratic Society); the group took its name from the line "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows".
The title of Radiohead's "Subterranean Homesick Alien" is taken in part from the title of Dylan's song, and Robert Wyatt's 1997 "Blues in Bob Minor" uses it as a structural template.

 Definition of Subterranean Homesick Blues
"Subterranean Homesick Blues", a song written by Bob Dylan, was originally released on the album Bringing It All Back Home in 1965.
Dylan's prophetic words were even enough to inspire a radical group (which broke away from the Students for a Democratic Society); they named themselves The Weathermen after the line "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows".
For example, In 2003 the Rock band Jet was inspired to name their very popular album Get Born after the lyrics from the last verse of Dylan's tune ("Ah get born, keep warm / short pants, romance, learn to dance").

It was around this time, too, that he adopted the stage name Bob Dylan, presumably in honor of the late Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, though this is an origin he has continued to deny throughout his career.
Early in 1965, he went into the studio with a nine piece band and recorded Bringing It All Back Home, a half-electric, half-acoustic album of complex, incisive, biting songs like "Subterranean Homesick Blues" (featuring the trademark line, "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows"), "Mr.
Stunning songs like "Tangled Up in Blue," "Idiot Wind," and "Shelter From the Storm" were not strictly autobiographical, but their emotional turbulence clearly reflected Dylan's anguished state of mind.
