In the wake of the horrendous bushfires that burnt into Canberran suburbs on 18 January, the Bushfire Behaviour and Management team has been working to understand the behaviour and effects of the fires.
The BBM team will also be endeavouring to document the development of the fire before it hit the suburbs of Canberra.
Observations of the spread of these fires (particularly the McIntyre’s Hut and Bendora fires which broke containment lines on Friday 17 January and burnt toward Canberra), aerial photographs of burn patterns and personal accounts of eyewitnesses will be used to reconstruct the spread of the fires.
