Eye, Suffolk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eye is a small town in the county of Suffolk, East Anglia, England, south of Diss, and on the River Dove.
In Saxon Britain, prior to the Norman Conquest, Eye was one of the numerous holdings of Edric of Laxfield, a wealthy and influential Saxon and the third largest land holder in Suffolk.
After the Norman Conquest, the importance of the town was firmly established in the region when the Honour of Eye was granted to William Malet, a Norman Lord, and continued to be held by royal or noble families until 1823.

Conservatives in Bury and Stowmarket - Local News - 14th March 2006 - Ruffley's dismay at Police merger for Suffolk - ...
David Ruffley MP has reacted with concern to the news that Suffolk Constabulary is to be merged with Norfolk and Cambridgeshire Constabularies.
In December of 2005 Suffolk Constabulary declined to volunteer for amalgamation and instead submitted that, if force to merge, they would prefer to join with Essex and Norfolk rather than with all six counties in the Eastern Region.
However, Suffolk Constabulary has confirmed they have received the proposed structure for future policing of Suffolk and that this involves a merger with forces in Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.

The relative volume of events in the rest of Suffolk was not sufficient to register in comparison to that found in these three areas.
Suffolk was one of 21 areas nationally who received funding for an Intensive Supervision and Surveillance Programme (ISSP) of £900,000 over three years.
It is not believed to be a coincidence that Suffolk plus four of these five Forces have seen an increase in recorded levels of crime since they have adopted this “prima facie” approach to recording crime which, in essence, necessitates the recording of a crime if reported unless there is credible evidence to the contrary.

Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire share the dubious distinction of having the least number of police officers per capita of population anywhere in the United Kingdom.
It is not uncommon in Suffolk for a single police vehicle to cover several hundred square miles of territory on a night shift.
In the small towns and villages of Suffolk it is impossible to have that anonymity as a police officer, making them and their families easy targets for reprisals.
