Whirling Dervishes - Wikipedia on Birmingham UK Com
The Mevlevi Order or the Mevleviye are a Sufi order founded by the followers of the Persian Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi in 1273 in Konya present day Turkey; also known as The Whirling Dervishes, sometimes called the Howling Dervishes or the Dancing Dervishes due to their famous practice of whirling as a form of meditation.
The practice of Sufi whirling, a whirling meditation, originated among the ancient Indian Sufis (and is still practiced by modern Turkish Dervishes).
The whirling is done on the spot in an anticlockwise direction, with the right arm held high, palm upwards, and the left arm held low, palm downwards.

 Sufi mystics and their philosophy
Sufi is a quality that is inexplicable in terms of psychology or morals—whoever understands it is a Sufi himself.
Sufi poetry, love couplets and quatrains composed in praise of the Divine, an invocation of that presence and the effect of melding with that presence, has evoked emotion in the hearts of many across the globe.
Sama or sema, the Mevlavi ceremony of whirling that symbolizes union with existence is partly the inspiration of Rumi and partly that of Turkish culture.

Sufi Whirling is one of the most ancient techniques, one of the most forceful.
Whirl with open eyes, just like small children go on twirling, as if your inner being has become a centre and your whole body has become a wheel, moving, a potter's wheel, moving.
There is no fixed time for the whirling – it can go on for hours - but it is suggested that you continue for at least an hour to get fully into the feeling of the energy whirlpool.

Along the same lines, Sufis assert that there are "spiritual poles" in each age (Qutbs), who are often hidden and somehow act as a kind of voltage regulator for the spiritual energies coursing through mankind.
The great Sufi saints have carefully tended the clock of Islam since its initial winding, revitalizing that faith for each generation, successfully countering the ravages of time against all odds, even into this age.
The Sufis insist that the message of Islam was crafted for the modern era, that it caps the succession of messages to the Children of the Book, and that there will be no more messages until the end of this era.
