WE agreed as it was a bit of a lcoudy day we would walk up the first part of the hill (a mere 230 metres).
Neither of us is particuarly fit, but we quite impressivly totterted upo the very steep forest páth, in amongst amazing trees, flowers, monkeys, birds and no doubt nasty spiders and snakes(although we thankfully saw none of these) and managed to get up to the first cable car stop.
It was a shame it was´t a cloudy day but it was good to see a different perspective of Ruio which is such a huge sprawl of as city.

Brazil is the world's largest Catholic nation, and you see a lot of bumper stickers that simply say JESUS or have a religious theme, but other than that I couldn't really tell that the citizens were strict in their faith.
Sugarloaf Mountain, where we would visit later today, actually sits off the coast and offers just as glamorous a view.
But, alas, no. There was one cloud that just sat on top of Sugarloaf the entire time we drove out there, rode the tram up, had a drink on the mountain and as we rode the tram back down.

As I rode from the airport into the city, the Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado Mountain was lighted and seemed to literally be looking over the city.
The 93 foot statue was placed on the mountain in 1931, and the view of the city from the statue’s feet is by far the best in the area.
I reached the Sugarloaf on the same cable car that Roger Moore had the famous fight on in the James Bond classic “Moonraker.” After Sugarloaf, I visited Baja, Leblon and Ipanema Beaches, which to me were even more beautiful than Copacabana and definitely safer.
