KOCHI: Samskara Sahithi, a cultural forum, would be organising a programme in honour of Panampilly Govinda Menon on his birth centenary celebrations on Wednesday.
Union Minister for Culture Ambika Soni would present the award at the function to be held at Maharaja's College auditorium at 4 p.m.
K.L. Mohana Varma was the chairman of the judging committee that chose Sugathakumari for the award.

Speaking at a study class on ‘changing world and environment problems’ held as part of the three-day state-level camp of the Youth Congress at Adoor on Saturday, Sugathakumari said that politicians were vying among themselves to distribute title deeds to the encroachers of forest land and to protect the sand mining mafia.
Sugathakumari said that the State had become the dump yard of waste from the western countries.
The politicians were keeping mum on the pathetic situation where the state was made a market for the substandard products of the multinationals, Sugathakumari said.

Recitation fails to reach expected standards, say judges
KOCHI: Smrithi Sajeevan, student of class VIII student at AKG Memorial HSS, Kannur, who recited Sugathakumari's Enthu patti namukku, won the first place in the recitation (Malayalam) competition at the State School Youth Festival.
The other poems recited by participants included Achane Kandu, written by Radha Madhavan, which depicts the plight of a father in modern times; Changampuzha Krishna Pillai's Manaswini; O.N.V. Kurup's Ujjayini; Sachitanandan's Koodikazhcha and Vayalar Rama Varma's Enikku maranamilla.
