  Suisei
Suisei (the Japanese name meaning `Comet') was launched on March 18, 1985, into heliocentric orbit to fly by Comet P/Halley.
Suisei began UV observations in November 1985, generating up to 6 images/day.
Fifteen burns of Suisei's 3-Newton motors over 5 - 10 April 1987, yielded a 65 meters (213 feet) per second velocity increase for a 60,000 kilometer (37,000-mile) Earth gravity assist swingby on August 20, 1992, although the craft was then lost behind the Sun for the summer.

Suisei (the Japanese name meaning `Comet') was launched on August 18, 1985 into heliocentric orbit to fly by Comet 1P/Halley.
Fifteen burns of Suisei's 3 N motors over 5--10th of April 1987 yielded a 65 m/s velocity increase for a 60,000 km Earth gravity assist swingby on August 20, 1992, although the craft was then lost behind the Sun for the summer.
ISAS had decided during 1987 to guide Suisei to a Nov. 24, 1998 encounter with P/Giacobini-Zinner, but due to depletion of the hydrazine, this, as well as plans to fly within several million kilometers of Comet P/Tempel-Tuttle on Feb. 28, 1998 has been cancelled.

Suisei was Japan's second contribution to the international fleet of six spacecraft sent to study comet Halley as it passed through the inner solar system in the mid 1980s.
During an approach that brought it about 152,400 km (94,696 miles) from the comet, Suisei snapped a series of ultraviolet images of the massive 20 million kilometer coma of dust and gas that surrounded Halley's nucleus.
Suisei was 1.4 kg (3 pounds) heavier than its sister spacecraft, Sakigake.

Tests of the repowered Suisei, designated D4Y3, revealed that the performance of the modified aircraft was virtually identical to that of the D4Y2 and the IJN had traded a slight reduction in visibility during take-off and landings for a great increase in reliability.
One of their minor successes was when two bombs from a Suisei put the carrier USS Franklin out of commission on March 19, 1945 with the loss of 724 lives off the Japanese main island of Honshu.
Other than that, they served well, their speed and bomb capacity were excellent; the failings of the Suisei were the failings of the IJN itself, being overwhelmed by the sheer output of ships and aircraft produced by the vast industrial capacity of the United States.

The spacecraft was nearly identical to the Japanese Suisei spacecraft launched eight months later.

WW2 Warbirds: the Yokosuka D4Y Suisei Allied codename 'Judy' - Frans Bonné
The Yokosuka D4Y Suisei (Comet) is often compared to the British de Havilland Mosquito due to it's developmental history, excellence and versatility.
Already since the beginning there were voices heard that argued the Suisei should be powered by an air-cooled radial, the type of engine Japan had experience with and trusted.
In June 1944 about 174 Suisei's were embarked on nine Japanese carriers to ward of the impending laniding of the American forces on the Marianas.

Plasma observations from Suisei clearly demonstrate the existence of the assimilation process of cometary ions in the solar-wind flow.
