Sukhoi Su-24 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sukhoi Su-24 (NATO reporting name Fencer) was the Soviet Union's most advanced all-weather interdiction and attack aircraft in the 1970s and 1980s.
Sukhoi, like rival Mikoyan-Gurevich (which was more or less simultaneously developing an air combat fighter aircraft that was to become the MiG-23), initially considered the possibility of lift jets to reduce take-off distance.
A total of 32-33 Su-24MKs were sold to the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force and to Iraq, but sources differ on the specific numbers.

 AeroWorldNet(tm) - Sukhoi Su-27KUB Enters Flight Tests [May 24, 1999]
This was stated by Sukhoi general designer Mikhail Simonov past October, when he publicly acknowledged that the company worked on a new deck aircraft.
Although neither the Russian Navy nor Sukhoi has revealed the roles that the Su-27KUB would fulfill, it is known that the new aircraft would supplement Su-27Ks, and not supersede them.
In the case of the Su-27KUB this arrangement was chosen to provide the naval pilots with the "feeling of a friend's elbow" and to reduce the workload on the crew.

Aircraft History: The Sukhoi Su-24 was the first Soviet warplane with full variable-geometry wings, and also the first to match the best comparable NATO plane.
For many of us who have been modelling for many years the talk about the Dragon Su 24 is one which has done the rounds many a time and apparently from numerous reports it is a kit that is best attempted by those with at least intermediate skills.
Still it has to be recommended on the basis that it is really the only (and probably closest) Su 24 on the market in mainstream injection molded plastic.

 Su-24 FENCER (SUKHOI)
Designed from the outset as an all-weather, low-level attack aircraft, the Sukhoi Su-24 'Fencer' bears a resemblance to the American F-111, altough the Soviet jet is somewhat smaller.
Entering service after the F-111, but before the Tornado, the 'Fencer is comparable in performance with the two premier Western interdictors, being somewhat faster and with better rough field capability, but having less advanced avionics and attack systems.

 Articles - General Dynamics F-111
Of notable interest is the Sukhoi Su-24 'Fencer' (1970), which bears a more than superficial resemblance to the F-111, albeit possessing less capability.
Nevertheless, several other types have followed, including the Soviet Sukhoi Su-17 'Fitter' (1966), Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 'Flogger' (1967) and Tupolev Tu-160 'Blackjack' bomber (1981), the U.S. F-14 Tomcat naval fighter (1970) and B-1B Lancer bomber (1974), the European Panavia Tornado (1974).
While the first aircraft was officially handed over in 1968, structural integrity problems found in the USAF fleet delayed the service entry of the F-111C until 1973, USAF F-4 Phantom IIs being leased as an interim measure.

 Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer
Building on their strike aircraft experience with the Su-7/17/22 family, Sukhoi expanded their design with an aircraft that would hopefully be able to operate supersonically at low altitudes.
Add into this equation the different roles of both of these aircraft and it quickly becomes apparent that the Su-24 was an independently designed aircraft aimed at fulfilling a different role.
To meet this demand not only was there a call for a new aircraft, but a new avionics suite as well.

Specialized fighter designs were still common, ranging from fighter-bombers such as the F-105 and the Sukhoi Su-7 to interceptors such as the English Electric Lightning and Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25.
During this era, high-performance supersonic and transsonicfighters became the norm.
Interceptor aircraft often sacrificed agility and payload in favor of speed and rate of climb.
