Sindh is bounded by the Thar Desert to the east, the Kirthar Mountains to the west, and the Arabian Sea in the south.
Sindh lies between the two monsoons - the southwest monsoon from the Indian Ocean and the northeast or retreating monsoon, deflected towards it by Himalayan mountains — and escapes the influence of both.
Sindh was conquered by the Persian Achaemenid Empire in the 6th century BCE, and became part of the Persian satrapy (province) of Hindush centered in the Punjab to the north.

The DIG (Operations), Syed Mushtaq Shah, told a press conference in Sukkur that 1,500 police commandos were engaged in the operation in Gora Teghani near Sukkur while the same number had been kept in reserve in the operation area.
The AIG Sukkur Range, Nayyar Husnain, is supervising the operation that started on February 28 and some 100 outlaws have been trapped on the fourth day of the operation launched to clear the riverine areas of these districts of criminals.
The DIG said the DPO Shikarpur and DPO Sukkur were leading the commandos in Gora Teghani, spread over nine kilometers including a deep forest, and had found the hideouts of Khandu Teghani and Bachlu Teghani.

SUKKUR, March 01 : Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad said that there were no chances of governor’s rule in the province and termed it a negative propaganda, unleashed since two years.
Expressing his satisfaction over the working of the Sindh Assembly, he said that some legislative work had been done in the House and now it was the responsibility of opposition to extend cooperation to the government so that the long-standing problems of the people could be resolved at their doorsteps.
He said that people of Sindh were grateful to President Musharraf for taking keen interest in the rehabilitation of the Sukkur Barrage.

 SUKKUR: Sindh facing unprecedented water shortage -DAWN - Local; 24 July, 2004
SUKKUR, July 23: Sindh will face an unprecedented shortage of water in next five days as the Indus River System Authority has cut supply to the province from 165,000 cusecs to 127,000 cusecs, according to official sources.
The chief engineer of irrigation has written a letter to the engineers of Sukkur and Kotri barrages and their off-taking canals, apprising them of upcoming water shortage and advising them to announce water rotation programme for the canals.
Sukkur Barrage upstream level was 120,415 cusecs and downstream 59,465 cusecs.

SUKKUR, June 27: Parts of upper Sindh and Balochistan are facing a worst kind of electricity crisis as power supplying towers have fallen near Kashmore and Khairpur Nathan Shah towns.
The Hesco officials said that at about 4:00pm the Hesco officials tried to supply electricity to the affected areas from the Sukkur grid on this a major fault developed which resulted into breakdown of power supply in Sukkur city which was not restored till the filing this report.
Earlier, Hesco Sukkur chief executive said that a fault had developed in the Guddu Thermal Power House which resulted into power disruption to the upper Sindh including the Sukkur city and its adjoining areas.

SUKKUR, July 16: The Sindh and Balochistan governments have agreed in principle on construction of new canals originating from Pat Feeder in Balochistan and water release into the Khirthar Canal according to the indent water after two days to overcome water shortage in Balochistan.
He made it clear that Balochistan would not share water shortage with Sindh.
Sindh's representative told him that Sukkur Barrage was not getting water according to its share, therefore they were not able to meet the requirement of Khirthar Canal.

 PAKISTAN: A honor killing victim's family suffers from the police inaction
Wazeeran(50) was killed by her husband's three nephews Zaheer (25), Qaaim-u-ddin (24), and Mohammad Salih (24) at her house in Rohrri Town, Sukkur District, Sindh Province on 7 March 2004.
At the time of her death, she was elected as a counselor representing the ladies in Union Council Rohrri according to the President of Pakistan's progamme of "Devolution of Power" to the district level.
Due to this fact, a resolution was moved in Sukkur District Council to arrest the perpetrators but it did not earn any positive results.
