Development of T-tubular vacuoles in eccentrically damaged mouse muscle fibres -- Yeung et al. 540 (2): 581 -- The ...
Sulforhodamine B diffused out of the vacuoles of eccentrically damaged fibres extremely slowly with a half-time of 6.3 ± 2.4 min and diffused out of the T-tubules with a half-time of 39 ± 4 s.
The morphology of the T-tubules was examined using confocal microscopy and an extracellular fluorescent dye, sulforhodamine B. In addition the accessibility of the T-tubules from the extracellular space was evaluated from the rate of washout of sulforhodamine B from the T-tubules.
Sulforhodamine B fluorescence was excited using the 543 nm line of a helium-neon laser operated at 50 % maximum power and emitted light was collected between 570 and 610 nm.

Sac or liposome containing dye (sulforhodamine) for immunoassay - Patent 4695554
A sac, in particular a vesicle, including as a detectable marker an absorbing dye having an extinction coefficient of at least 100,000 and a solubility in water of at least 0.1M; in particular, sulforhodamine B or salt thereof.
In accordance with a particularly preferred embodiment, the absorbing dye which is included within the interior of the sac is a sulforhodamine B dye, and in particular, sulforhodamine as either a free acid or salt, e.
The amplification obtained with tracers produced in accordance with the invention (vesicles including sulforhodamine B sensitized with a ligand) is in the range of 1000 to 10,000 times that which can be achieved with one marker group attached to each tracer molecule.

Eye diagnosis process - Patent 4842401
An eye examination process includes instilling a neutral pH sulforhodamine B fluorescent dye which is excitable by green light and which fluoresces with orange light in the eye of a patient.
In addition to the preferred sulforhodamine B dye, the process of this invention can employ other fluorescent dyes having similar or different characteristics as long as the wavelength of excitation of their fluorescence is longer than that which excites fluorescence in the conjunctiva 18 and sclera 22 of the eye 10.
The tear film 24 may be observed immediately by illuminating the eye with green light, i.e., light of wavelengths in the band 520-560 nm, which causes the preferred rhodamine B dye to fluoresce with orange light, i.e., wavelengths in the band 570-650 nm.

The corrosivity potential of a chemical may be predicted from its effects on the transcutaneous electrical resistance of rat skin and from its effects on the penetration of sulforhodamine B dye through the skin.
In addition to the changes in transcutaneous electrical resistance, a second endpoint, dye binding (sulforhodamine B), has been added for protocol optimization after the ECVAM prevalidation study, with the aim to reduce the number of false positive predictions encountered previously with surfactants and neutral organics.
The sulforhodamine B dye content is determined for each skin disc.
