Topic: Sulim Yamadayev

Sobaka :: Dossier: Sulim Yamadayev   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
An ally of Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov, Yamadayev was injured in an assassination attempt orchestrated by Muslim fundamentalist-cum-warlord-cum-slavetrader Arbi Barayev on July 17, 1998.
As Sulim Yamadayev was deputized under the Russian commandant in Chechnya, he didn't answer at to Kadyrov at all (nor, for that matter, did most of the other pro-Moscow militias in the first year of the war).
Yamadayev can argue with some credibility that Barayev's attempt on his life was the real act of treason, but it doesn't explain his unqualified oaths of loyalty to Moscow or the ill-gotten gains of his family.
