Back Bay (MBTA station) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Some MBTA commuter rail stations have no wheelchair access and many of those that do have short high level platforms that only serve one or two cars.
Back Bay Station has a full length high level platform for Amtrak Northeast Corridor and MBTA Attleboro/Providence trains but only a short high level platform for MBTA Framingham/Worcester and Amtrak Chicago trains (which operate on different tracks from the Northeast Corridor service).
Back Bay Station opened May, 1987 as part of the Orange Line's Southwest Corridor project and was dedicated by Governor Michael Dukakis.

Health & Disabilities Unit > Complaint
Sullivan on this matter, he discounted her inability to access an education with a smile and a trite promise to “work on it.” After two years the station is still inaccessible.
At South Station she soon learned that the elevator from the subway platform to the mid-level of the station was working, but that the elevator was broken from the mid level to the top level where the commuter rails were.
She wants the MBTA to be readily accessible, clean, and safe so that she can: timely get to work; timely arrive at her appointments; and conduct her business in an efficient and effective manner instead of worrying about functioning lifts and elevators.

NEWSLINK, V5N2 Winter 2001: Not a lot: Why MBTA commuter parking is scarce
Another option is to provide shuttle service to MBTA stations from parking lots that are currently underutilized, but are within reasonable driving distance of the T. This is the model used by some privately-owned park-and-ride garages operating at Logan Airport.
The parking lots adjacent to commuter rail and subway stations are, for the most part, filled to capacity early in the morning.
First, the MBTA is unwilling or unable to charge enough for parking.

$1.4 Million Environmental Settlement With MBTA Brings Clean Air and Water Benefits to Boston
Under the settlement, the MBTA will pay a fine of $328,274 and undertake two environmental projects, including a $1 million project to reduce pollution from commuter trains at South Station and donating a one-acre parcel on the Somerville/Charlestown line so a commuter bike path can be extended to Sullivan Square.
Donating an easement on a one-acre strip of land so an existing Mystic River bike path can be extended to reach the Sullivan Square subway station from Draw 7 Park in Somerville.
Finally, the MBTA failed to develop and implement oil spill prevention and control plans for at least 10 MBTA facilities, in some cases 20 years after they were required by law.

The MBTA will promise a few things, like a new "station cleaning program", and they'll remind us, through their media mouthpieces, that this is "the cheapest transit system in the nation", the well-worn excuse that they've pulled out of their hat for millennia.
The MBTA operates commuter rail and bus service from the Fitchburg station.
MBTA Police Chief Joseph Carter said Monday that police are looking for four black males, possibly between the ages of 13 to 18 years old who were wearing masks and surrounded the woman at the Beaconsfield MBTA stop off of Dean Road at around 8:30 p.m.

NETransit: The Charlestown Elevated - Sullivan Square
Sullivan Square station was the largest transit facility in all of North America when it opened in 1901.
Much of what was the Sullivan Square facility is now a large vacant lot, which the MBTA uses for occasional storage, and a few other MBTA buildings including the new Charlestown Garage.
Much of the glass enclosure of the station was destroyed in the fires, exposing the interior of the once great station to the elements.

A leak of hydrochloric acid from a tanker train has closed the Sullivan Square MBTA station in Charlestown, Massachusetts and forced officials to evacuate a handful of nearby houses.
The incident is also causing disruption subway service and in commuter rail service to and from North Station.
(Boston-AP) -- The leak was discovered shortly after 9:30 this morning in a rail yard near the station.

NETransit: The Charlestown Elevated - Everett Station
The old right-of-way to the station has been renewed, with the exception of the Mystic River draw, where the granite supports for the El are still in place.
Everett station as built was a temporary station in 1918, and opened in 1919.
Everett simply was put in place to act as a transfer point, easing some of the demand on Sullivan Square, and gave the El the ability of using the Mystic River Drawbridge that it had constructed in preparation for the route to Malden.

 Welcome to BadTransit -
The slow crawl we have been experiencing between Oak Grove and Sullivan Station is due to the "Signal Improvement" project.
Unfortunately none of these penalties are being imposed by the MBTA, although the T is regularly and proudly announcing that their new contract has these incentives built in.
Our BadTransit MBTA status system is powered by a CA-Visual Objects application which gathers the MBTA's transit status information and, with minimal human intervention, processes it into meaningful data.

 Dorchester Reporter, Dorchester MA USA
Details of the looming reconstruction of Ashmont MBTA station are being worked out between members of the community, the MBTA, and development firm Trinity Financial, with an eye toward beginning construction in late 2003.
Generally regarded as among the most broken-down facilities in the MBTA system, the stations were awarded funding from the Massachusetts Legislature after years of lobbying by local activists.
Divided into two phases, the project is now entering the second phase, which will involve not just the facelift to the station itself, but the redevelopment of a now-vacant parcel of land adjacent to the station on Dorchester Avenue.

Any station Performer failing to produce his/her Performer photo identification badge and/or other government issued photo ID upon request of an MBTA employee shall be asked to cease Performer activity and leave the station until such time that they have the proper Performer photo identification on their person.
The MBTA subway permit program is being sold off to a private company, Transit Realty(privatization of a public service). There may be a class action lawsuit against the MBTA on behalf of the performers to stop these repressive measures.
South Station Red Line location is now directly to the left at the bottom of stairs on the in bound side of the station (the traditional performance location).

 G.O.A.T. - MBTA Absurdity
Obviously, the MBTA can't be held responsible for that.
All MBTA buses now sport this highly visible sign, which I interpret to mean that passengers always enter via the front door and exit via the rear door.
Personally, I think passes should be sold at most stations, and at least on weekends when the last or first day of the month falls on the weekend.

One major change to the shuttle system during the DNC was to add a shuttle service to the Sullivan Square MBTA station to transport MGH and Partners employees from the Orange Line to the MGH main campus and CNY.
"Using Sullivan Square as an alternative to North Station allowed for a prompt commute to CNY while avoiding the congestion in the Haymarket area on the way to the MGH.
Nick Lepore, left, and Bob Hubbard from Partners Transportation helped passengers from Sullivan Square get to their destinations.
