The only way our community college could become financially sound was to aggressively recruit from outside the community, a practice frowned upon by the State University of New York which operates four-year colleges for that purpose.

The Sullivan County Community College Dormitory Corporation, a newly created tax exempt organization, received approximately 20 acres of vacant land, at an appraised value of $66,000, for the purpose of building a 320-bed dormitory.

 College buys its first dorm
Sullivan County Community College gained its first official dormitory Wednesday with the purchase of a private apartment complex located near campus.
SCCC officials hope college-run housing will make the school more attractive to prospective students, especially those from outside the county.
Officials of the Sullivan Community College County Dormitory Authority could not be reached and no cost of the dormitory was provided.

SCCC is also expected to reduce operating costs by $74,000 per year as a result of the new geothermal system.
NYSERDA provided SCCC a technical analysis of the proposed conducted by the Albany office of Science Applications International who also reviewed the installed system to assure NYSERDA and SCCC that it operated consistent with the design and delivered the energy savings expected.
"The College is grateful for the NYSERDA grant in the amount of $250,000 used to offset part of the cost to install the geothermal system in the college," said Sullivan County Community College President Dr. Mamie Howard Golladay.

 Sullivan college plans
College President Mamie Golladay presented a preliminary $16.2 million budget to lawmakers yesterday, seeking an additional $571,975 in funding next year from the county for a total of $4.1 million.
Earlier this year, county lawmakers agreed to commit $1.4 million for capital projects to the college.
Golladay's 18-page budget report was obtained through the county through the Freedom of Information Act after she declined to provide a copy.

SUNY Cobleskill has entered into agreement with Cayuga Community College, Columbia Greene Community College, Onondaga Community College and Sullivan County Community College to work as an educational unit for the benefit of students who wish to pursue a four-year degree at the college.
The agreement calls for associate's degrees at Cayuga, Columbia Greene, Onondaga and Sullivan to be accepted as meeting the requirements for the first two years of a bachelor's degree at SUNY Cobleskill.
Students from associated programs at the listed community colleges who have completed their associate's degrees with a minimum 2.0 grade point average will be guaranteed a space at SUNY Cobleskill.
