		Sullivan officials studied the need for a pharmacy college here for two years before presenting the concept to the university's board of directors for approval in October, the release said.
		Daniel Nona, executive director emeritus of the Accrediting Council on Pharmaceutical Education and professor emeritus at the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy, has served as a consultant to Sullivan as school officials have studied the concept of adding a pharmacy program.
		Sullivan will seek accreditation for the pharmacy program from the Accrediting Council for Pharmacy Education, according to the release.

		The university is starting the program to address a growing shortage of pharmacists across the country, said Tom Davisson, senior vice president of the Sullivan University System, in a news release.
		Officials with that university, who recently announced they will expand their pharmacy school by sending some fifth-year students to Louisville for clinical work, have said Kentucky is near the top of national rankings of states with a shortage of pharmacists.
		"Sullivan University is committed to bringing the necessary resources to the development of a college of pharmacy whose mission is to assist in addressing the expanding needs for pharmaceutical care in the community," Nona said in the release.
