  Een proefschrift in wording over de milieugeschiedenis van het eiland Sumbawa, Indonesië
En dat vind ik misschien wel het moeilijkste te aanvaarden van mijn promotieonderzoek: dat ik niet kan terugvallen op eigen antropologisch veldwerk en dat ik steeds weer moet vertrouwen op de interpretaties en inzichten van anderen.
Tweemaal bracht ik het eiland een bezoek: in 1994 en 1996.
Voor de mensen op Sumbawa is de bloei van deze bloem een teken dat het regenseizoen er bijna aankomt.
