 APPEAL: SIL (Summer Institute of Linguistics) International
More specifically, SIL International is collaborating with the Asian Development Bank and the Philippines Government in conducting a study on the feasibility of expanding the Government’s “Regional Lingua Franca” programme to cover various minority languages in the country.
SIL experts are also working with UNICEF in Lao PDR and Viet Nam to clarify policy issues related to language in education, while in Bangladesh, SIL International has joined a leading NGO-BRAC-in planning its “Education for Indigenous Children” programme as part of a nationwide NFE initiative.
In November 2003, SIL International, UNESCO and Mahidol University (Bangkok, Thailand) organized the “Conference on Language Development, Language Revitalization and Multilingual Education in Asia.” Its purpose was to bring together policy makers, academics and practitioners from minority language communities to learn about current practices and to explore possible cooperative future efforts.

 Handbook of Texas Online: SUMMER INSTITUTE OF LINGUISTICS
The Summer Institute of Linguistics, Incorporated, was founded in 1934 in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, by William Cameron Townsend (1896-1982) in order to apply linguistics to the problems of understanding unwritten languages and translating the Bible into those languages.
SIL grew rapidly from forty-two members, when it was incorporated in 1942, to more than 2,000 members by the mid-1960s.
SIL has cooperative educational and research agreements with about twenty-one universities and governments, including UT Arlington, the University of Oklahoma, the University of Niamey (Niger), the University of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), the Cenderawasih University (Indonesia), and Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (Togo), among others.

This Doulos SIL font is essentially the same design as the SIL Doulos font first released by SIL in 1992.
SIL Doulos, as other fonts included in the SIL Encore Fonts package, was provided not as a working font but as a “library” font from which working fonts could be made using the TypeCaster program.
In contrast, Doulos SIL is a working font to be used as is, not as a basis for derivative fonts.
