Jack Ragotzy, founder of the landmark summer stock company, The Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan, died December 15, 2003 of a heart attack in his home on the grounds of the theatre, one day shy of his 82nd birthday.
Jack and Betty soon found that there little theatre was growing at a tremendous rate and soon began renting a former dairy barn in Augusta.
They were incorporated as The Barn Theatre in 1949 and began converting it into an esteemed Equity resident summer stock theatre and one of the only remaining structures of its kind in the United States.

In 1945, Hiram College and Kent State University leased the Majestic from the Reynolds family as a summer theatre experience for students.
Until 1988, it was leased to the University of Cincinnati as a summer stock theatre for its students.
While there are newer boats on the Ohio today, the Majestic was the last of the purpose-built "floating operas", the last to make one-night stands, the last to actively travel, the longest-lived under one owner and home of the largest family - the eleven Reynolds children - ever reared on a showboat.
