Sun Li-Jen's Chinese 38th Division was part of the forces Chiang Kai-shek sent into Burma to protect the BURMA ROAD.Although unable to stop the Japanese from cutting the Burma Road, Sun gained the respect of General William Slim, the Commander of the British 14th Army for his competence.
Sun and his Division retreated into India and became a part of 'X Force', the Chinese forces under the command of Joseph Stilwell, the American commander of all American and Chinese forces deployed in the "China-Burma-Indian Theatre" (CBI).
Sun was falsely accussed and arrested in August 1955, charged for attempting to launch a coup against Chiang Kai-shek.

He was also known as Sun Chung-neng (孫仲能, Sūn Zhòngnéng) and had the courtesy name Sun Fu-min (孫撫民, Sūn Fǔmín).
Sun was arrested in August 1955, charged for attempting to launch a coup against Chiang Kai-shek.

I hope that during your struggle to win real freedom and fair recognition for Gen. Sun, you had won enough friendship and support from a wide sector of society and are now confident, at least partially, that justice will indeed prevail and that Taiwan or other Chinese societies may not be so hopeless.
General Sun Li-jen was my father's hero, although he never had the privilege to meet his hero in person.
This was the one and only single event my father ever intersected with Sun's military career, or as he would prefer to put it, contributed his efforts to General Sun's brilliant achievements in the Burmese Theatre.

I have one: Sun Liren, a Chinese general who fought against the Japanese in China and Burma during WW2.
Click here for a brief bio on Sun Liren.
In sum, he was an American educated (VMI) soldier who was able to win battles against the Japanese at a time where other Chinese units were being trampled by the seemingly unstoppable Japanese juggernaut.

Now about the question, it's hard to determine what Chinese soldiers actually fought with, other than it's a combination of Russian-German-American-British-Japanese-salvaged-home produced equipment as well as swords (yes, swords weren't that uncommon) and other odd items.
A few Chinese generals were very good, such as Sun Li-Jen (Sun Liren).
I just learned that Sun Liren was dubbed the 'Rommel of the East." That's nifty.

Pinyin spelling of Chinese names and places is used, so familiar names to U.S. readers like Chiang Kai-shek and Sun Yat-sen are rendered in different spellings (Jiang Jieshi and Sun Zhongshan).
Better fact checking would have noted that Chinese general Sun Liren died in 1990 at the age of 91 and is not still living as indicated in his entry.
On the whole, however, this is a set that students and interested patrons in most large public and academic libraries will find very helpful when researching the U.S. role and relations on the other side of the Pacific.
