Sundarar's Grandfather signed a document which made him and his progeny slaves of an old man. Sundarar recognized the signature of his grandfather in the document.
Because Siva made Sundarar his slave, it fell upon Siva to upkeep his slave and meet his "needs." Siva makes his devotees His slaves first and later becomes the slave of the devotees; there is no way that Siva can sit idly by without catering to the needs of his devotees.
Sundarar was in pain at the prospect of the descent to earth because he would be leaving the sacred feet of Siva and appear as the enjoyer of ephemeral pleasures of the flesh on earth.

Sundarar's version does not explain how Nandan got that name or what hurdles he had to face in entering the temple.

We lost 80% of the songs composed by the Tamil Saiva Trinity (Appar, Sambandhra and Sundarar: the last two themselves anthaNars) and traditional burning of Tamil mansucripts in temple yagams, as portrayed poignantly by UVS Iyer in his autobiography?
After that sekkizhar is appointed by the king to compile the the survived poems and he went to all the places to collect the details of the nayanmars.
