The list was published in The Sunday Times (sister paper to The Times) on 3 April 2005.
The list is based on an estimate of the minimum wealth of the richest 1,000 people or families in the United Kingdom as of January of that year.
The Sunday Times Rich List was published the previous year as the Sunday Times Rich List 2004.

Last year, the rich list contained 63 dot.com millionaires, led by the investor Kevin Leech who saw his fortune rise by £800 million to £1.2 billion in a little over four months.
The Sunday Times survey, compiled by wealth expert Philip Beresford, shows a marked drop in the ranks for those with purely inherited wealth, and marks continued rise of the nouveaux riches.
The rise of the newly rich is due largely to the radical deregulation of the financial markets, concomitant with economic globalisation over the past 20 years.

Thus the list at one time ranked Robert Maxwell above Rupert Murdoch, though the former was actually insolvent.
Analysis of social trends based on one year's list, or based on changes in the list from one year to another is for this reason necessarily based on very insecure foundations.

Compiled by Dr Philip Beresford, author of the Sunday Times Rich List, this year's list finds the combined wealth of these 300 millionaires is £8.9 billion, an overall loss of £600 million from last year.
Around 10 per cent of those featured in the list came as refugees escaping the Amin regime in Uganda or were displaced as a result of the oppression they faced from the Kenyan government in the 1970s.
This year's list also shows that Asian millionaires are still getting younger, with a total of 47 of the current list being under the age of 40, and controlling a staggering £1.33 billion.

as far as Tori's wealth goes...I agree with ya...she might not be rich enough to live like a stupid flashinthepan hiphop star, but she has the houses, the personal cook, the studio.
And we have that report from some time ago talking about her "demands" for one tour stop (I know not where), so we could kinda guesstimate from there.

Reading the latest Sunday Times City rich list reminds one of the old 1920s Wall Street joke about the broker who took a client from out of town on a tour of downtown Manhattan.
The City rich list is stuffed full of brokers, bankers, hedge fund managers and private equity partners, most of them virtually unknown outside the Square Mile.
The problem is that none of these people featured on the list 'make' anything in the conventional sense.
