Municipalities are responsible for government-mandated duties, and elections for the City Council are held every four years, parallel to the general elections.
In the latest century, the population of nearby municipalities of Stockholm County has become important to mention next to the population of Stockholm Municipality, as many municipalities are constituting parts of Stockholm urban area and as such often considered part of the general term "Stockholm".

Sundbybergs centrum serves the downtown of Sundbyberg, a small municipality outside Stockholm that originally (in the 1870s) grew up around the railroad.
Sundbyberg has the feel of a small town, with its own downtown district centered on Sturegatan, a block away from the railroad.
But Sundbyberg is served by four and a half subway stations (Sundbybergs centrum, Duvbo, Rissne, Hallonbergen, and one of the exits from Näckrosen) and a commuter rail station.

Kymlinge is Stockholm's "ghost station." It was built along with the rest of line 11 to Akalla in the early 1970s, when there were serious plans to develop the area around the station with either a mix of housing and offices, or with a very large number of offices, mostly federal agency offices.
These plans never came to fruition because the municipality of Sundbyberg, where Kymlinge station is located, wanted to keep the area as green space.
So there you have this station, between Hallonbergen and Kista, with its platform lying half in tunnel and half in the open, more than half ready for service -- but trains might never stop there.
