On that record Ogre presented his new sound: weird electropop songs that had very little in common with the dark music he made with Skinny Puppy.
SunnyPsyOp is his second effort after his ‘reincarnation’ as ohGr.
The songs are a little bit less weird as before, which makes the record easier to listen to.

During that rerecording we were writing some of the songs for this record because we were stuck in the studio waiting for the licensing to go through.
"SunnyPsyOp" is sunny psychological operations, which is to me what the news media is in America with the amount of bandwidth we have with 24-hour news stations that vary from each other only slightly.
They are sort of these talking heads that very happily tell us what we should do and what we should and shouldn't like, what we should watch out for, what's healthy and what isn't, and so on.

 CRUSHER Magazine: Review: Ohgr
What you need to know: Ohgr is comprised of several members of the proto industrial/experimental noise band Skinny Puppy, and is in fact fronted by Nivek Ogre, former lead singer of that band.
Ohgr takes all the elements that made Skinny Puppy great, the experimental layers of disjointed sound, a strong artistic sense, and lyrics that take a jaunt through insanity and the underbelly and have brought these pieces to the next logical step, making it all coherent.
The first is a throwback to early dark wave as evidenced on tracks like “Hilo” and “Jako.” These tracks feature the layered synthesizers and drum machines that help to define dark wave.

 Rough Edge: Ohgr CD Reviews
As I was listening to "Sunnypsyop" the first time through, my thoughts were immediately drawn to the industrial type of music you hear in action movie scores these days, most notably "The Matrix" films.
As its title might indicate, "Sunnypsyop" isn't as heavy as its predecessor but don't expect it to be light, airy and inspirational either.
For the record, Devo comparisons are a good thing: Devo is a favorite band of mine and - judging from a conversation I had with numerous fans at a recent Motorhead show - that's not an unusual (albeit perhaps surprising) revelation.

OhGr - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nivek Ogre from the SunnyPsyOp era, circa 2003
2003 saw the release of a follow up, SunnyPsyOp (a play on the phrase "sunny side up" and military PsyOps).
Currently the project is on hiatus - Ogre, cEvin Key and William Morrison toured in support of the new Skinny Puppy album, The Greater Wrong of the Right, for much of 2004.

SunnyPsyOp is definitely a step up and a step forward in a different direction than it's older sibling; Welt.
This album is much darker than Welt, and seems to take a few steps into Skinny Puppy industrial territory.
SunnyPsyOp also seems to be much more cohesive than Welt as most of the songs are connected between intro's and outro's, and all seem to fit nicely together.

Litany: Scott's Music News Covering Skinny Puppy, Download, ohGr and Related Projects
"After the release of Sunnypsyop, Ohgr will embark on a North American tour this summer that should galvanize the i-rock faithful with a new generation of neophytes fond of using meaningless terms like “electroclash.” He’ll also be doing some dates alongside Ministry and its adjunct band, Revolting Cocks before summer’s end."
The tentatively official and officially tentative release date for ohGr's Sunnypsyop is currently July 1st.
Included are four of the new tracks we heard on the ohGr tour of 2001 (the show's instrumental opener, so far known to us as Chicks Are For Power, does not appear to be included - at least under that title).

In Music We Trust - ohGr: SunnyPsyOp
Incredible genius strikes again, this time with SunnyPsyOp, a must-own, multimedia music disc.
Take the psychotic vox of Skinny Puppy and (with a dab of "maJik") spin backward through time to the pop bliss of Gary Numan (in "HiLo").
OhGr alternately blends smooth vox elements of techno-raver seduction with sultry and familiar synth-pop patterns, and then, oscillates next into syncopated industrial noise filtered behind harsh vocal gradients to produce ultimately an innovative collection of pure musical paté for carnivorous dance music enthusiasts.

Industrial music icon ohGr (formerly of the sadly departed and highly influential Skinny Puppy) has recently let loose his latest creation upon the world.
sunnypsyop feature the standard electronic drums, synthetic sounds and effects-laden vocals that characterize the genre.
This is a great album for driving or dancing to, with more than few catchy sing-along songs, even if some of them do sound similar after awhile.
