 | | One needn't necessarily be a fan of silent film in order to appreciate the majesty and scale of F.W. Murnau's 1927 masterpiece "Sunrise," a glorious cinematic feast of love as seen through the eyes of a filmmaker who obviously cared a great deal about this project. |
 | | As his first feature film debut in America, Murnau's film came at the end of the silent era, and sadly enough, its theatrical release on September 23, 1927, was overshadowed by that of Warner Bros. "The Jazz Singer," which was the studio's first feature to use audible dialogue along with the images. |
 | | The second half of the film finds our married couple coming into their marriage anew, as if they are newlyweds (there is even one sequence in which they witness another couple's nuptials, and their reconciliation afterwards is so beautiful it brings tears to the eyes). |
