Of the music performed tonight, "Mouth Music, "I Love my Love," and "Suo Gan" are most authentically Celtic in terms of melody and, in the case of "Mouth Music," style of performance.
The melody of "Suo Gan" was used by Steven Spielberg in the motion picture Empire of the Sun.

I bought this CD solely to have "Suo Gan," the first track, which only lasts about two-and-a-half minutes.
For reasons that I am unable to fully explain, the track that has always stood out for me here is the song "Suo Gan", featuring a heartfelt solo by James Rainbird.
When you listen to it you can feel the emotions expressed in the movie...when you hear the music in the movie, it really tells how the people are feeling and it really sets the mood.

Later in the show, the London Male Welsh Choir joined her on stage fora rousing rendition of Gwyr Harlech ("Men of Harlech"), in Welsh.
I think that Charlotte has a bright future--her poise, her voice, her solid grounding in a loving family all bode well.
And I hope that the world treats her kindly-- the music business is a rough place for anybody-- so I wish her well.

We can travel to Wales for two lullabies, Suo Gan and All Through the Night and then go to Scotland for Green Grow the Rushes 0.
May Behan Miller's version of Suo Gan is worth the price of this CD.
I brought the CD for this track alone and was pleasantly pleased with her renditions of other traditional Irish fare, especially Old Maid in the Garrett which has enough quirkiness to be a classic.

Bob Worrall is a great piper - and he and his band do a great job of mixing the pipes, singing (in Gaelic!), guitars, and drums all together.
The best track, in my opinion, is number twelve, with "Suo Gan" and "The Big Parcel" - the small pipes, a harp, and guitar all together make "Suo Gan" beautiful (although I love that aire by itself), then "The Big Parcel" is nice and upbeat with the drums accompaning the smallpipes.
My family actually got this CD at a silent auction - and I couldn't wait to hear it, just because Bob Worrall is the piper.

Empire Of The Sun: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack | Classical Music Online
The soundtrack of this movie was undoubtedly instrumental in making Empire of the Sun the amazingly beautiful movie that it is. With the first track alone, SUO GAN, which is actually a Welsh lullaby and not a Japanese song, you'll find yourself riveted and drawn to the time and place and story of Jim.
Though the music pieces all suit the scene perfectly as is usual with John Williams (and "Lost in the Crowd") had me on the edge of my seat the first time I heard it), few of them stick out to me.
The reason this doesn't get two stars was because of the title song, "Suo Gan." It's a beautiful, haunting melody that I will...

As for songs not written specifically for the films, I'd go with Anything Goes, followed very closely again by Suo Gan.
Hook songs were made for the musical, maybe that's why they don't fit much in the movie.
Among the not made for the film, I would choose, like you, Anything Goes, Suo Gan, and also Come Fly With Me and OYF'N Pripetshok.

While toiling away in the PFF salt mines, I just heard over my satellite radio an entrancing song, Suo Gan, sung by the great baritone Bryn Terfel -- a piece I had never heard before.
Owning this classic was just one-click away, of course, so soon I will be able to hear it again, along with other examples of the rather specialized genre of Welsh folk music.

Her soprano is featured on 11 of the 23 tracks; she especially shines on "Stille Nacht" and on "Es ist ein Ros entsprungen."
My personal picks must include the classic "The First Nowell," the delicate (and previously unfamiliar) "Suo Gan," and "Coventry Carol" (Chanticleer does a fascinatingly discordant version of one of my all-time favorite carols).
For those who enjoy classical work by a male a cappella chorus at the top of its craft, spending "Christmas with Chanticleer" can be a very rewarding experience.
