Behind the magnificent passing of Brett Favre and the spectacular kick returning of Desmond Howard, the Green Bay Packers won their first Super Bowl in 29 years by defeating the New England Patriots 35-21.
Howard, who had been cut by two other NFL teams, joined with Andre Rison, a castoff in four other cities, to provide the biggest plays for the Packers, who won their third Super Bowl in as many games.
