Super Famicom (Japanese:スーパーファミコン) was a videogame console released by Nintendo in Japan.
The Super Famicom was released on November 21, 1990 for ¥32,000, and it came with two controllers.
Another interesting note is that the Super Famicom logo appeared in the "Special Zone" of Super Mario World worldwide, despite the fact that the logo was not used for the SNES releases in North America, however the logo was used on European releases.

Well a Famicom is the original NES system from Japan, and the Super Famicom is ofcourse the follow up to that, which is the Super Nintendo.
The Super Famicom and the Super Nintendo are the same console, the only difference is that the Super Famicom is from Japan and has a different design, while the Super Nintendo is from North America and also sports a different design.

The Tri-Star casing was originally designed for use with the Super Famicom, which unlike the US SNES has a flat top surface.
This can be seen as the position of the Super 8 label is at an impossible angle with respect to the position of the picture.
The reason for this flaw may be due to the original design of the Famicom (the Japanese version of the NES), which did not have Select or Start buttons on the second controller.

Popular Super Famicom titles, like F-Zero and Super Mario World, were the most difficult for several reasons--if nothing else, the Super Famicom hardware specifications changed in small ways at least twice during the development project, requiring changes to existing code.
This seems ridiculous until you realize that both the Super Famicom and the Apple IIgs are based on the 65816 processor, a cheap toy with inadequate processing power that was stuck in the Super Famicom to smooth over the early development process (since it is backwards compatible with the 6502, the NES' processor).

yes it is the japanese name and version of the super nintendo or vice versa.
Actually the Super Famicom was a completely different console from Nintendo, despite popular belief of it being a SNES clone.
I believe there was also some Megaman game released for it supposed to be Megaman 7, but after the failure of the system Capcom made a new game for the SNES and labeled this one MM7 instead.

We go to FFIII and he mentioned that it came out for the Super Famicon (not a typo - he calls it that).
We finished the list and I mentioned that FFIII came out for the Famicom and not the Super Famicom (emphasis on the m) and he said no. I told him that I had just got FFIII in the mail from eBay and that it was for my Famicom.
He told me, "Yep, it's Super Famicom." I showed him that he was a f'in' moron and pointed out the shape of the case and he was confused.
