In the News (Tue 2 Dec 08)

Millionaire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A millionaire is a person who has a net worth or wealth of more than one million United States dollars, euros, UK pounds or units of a comparably valued currency.
The increasing number of millionaires is partially due to inflation: a million dollars, for example, provides far less purchasing power today than it did in the 19th century.
The Millionaire was the title of a 1955 TV series about an unseen man of wealth who gave away $1,000,000 to a different person each episode, and a 1931 motion picture about a retired millionaire who buys a gas station to ease his boredom.

For ABC, putting "Millionaire" on again, with Philbin at the helm, is like trying to revive the goose that laid the golden eggs - the goose ABC cooked, and killed, by running their most successful franchise in a decade into the ground.
Having admitted that it overexposed "Millionaire" to the point of absurdity, and disaster, ABC executives are back to presenting the program the way it began: as a week-long series of specials, and with a bigger cash prize and two new lifelines to jazz things up a bit.
But "Super Millionaire," like the original, is instantly and eminently watchable.
