Topic: Super Tuesday

Super Tuesday - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The phrase "Super Tuesday" first came into use for the slate of primary elections that took place on March 8, 1988, in the U.S. Southern states of Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama, and Georgia leading up to the 1988 election in November.
Subsequent "Super Tuesdays" have taken place on March 10, 1992; March 12, 1996; March 7, 2000; and March 2, 2004.
Since Super Tuesday primaries are held in a large number of states from geographically and socially diverse regions of the country, Super Tuesday typically represents a Presidential candidate's first test of national electability.

 Guardian | Super Tuesday explained
It was a creation of the southern states of America, which decided in 1988 to lump all their primaries on to the same day in March, because they felt northern states, like tiny New Hampshire which votes first, were having a disproportionate influence on the presidential race.
Super Tuesday gave the south has its own marker, and now polls are held on that day in states in almost every region of the country.
The candidate coming out of Super Tuesday best will be hoping to use the momentum of victory to spur him on in the closing stages.

Let me suggest with respect to Gov. Don Fowler's characterizations of Super Tuesday it's designed to have a definitive result, or for that matter, other characterizations, it was designed to either attract a particular candidate, a particular philosophy, or someone from a particular region.
He said that there were several criteria by which Super Tuesday should be judged.
I know the candidates were frustrated by what they had to do to prepare for Super Tuesday, but one of the tests is to see how they respond to those kinds of pressures and to see how they do, because all the candidates are essentially subjected to the same kinds of pressure.
