SuperPaint 3.5 is compatible with TrueType fonts, Virtual Memory, and 32-bit addressing.
SuperPaint continued to operate without hanging, conflicting or complaining about the memory squeeze I had it under.

SuperPaint PlugIns   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
As a member of the SuperPaint 2.0 team she was involved in developing the plug-in interface and creating many of the tools that shipped with SuperPaint.
At startup time, SuperPaint scans the pouch for Plug-ins and after verifying that they are compatible with the version of SuperPaint that is running, incorporates them into the application as appropriate for each type.
The toolID passed from SuperPaint is used for the resource ID of the menu rather than assuming a specific resource ID. The tool could have hierarchical sub-menus as well and would load them and detach them all in the same way as its main menu.

SuperPaint would never have seen the success that it did without the many contributions of its principal artist, Damon Rarey.
An article on SuperPaint appeared in Datamation magazine in 1979, and a large (18MB) scan of it can be found here.
I gave a talk on SuperPaint along with my friend and colleague Alvy Ray Smith in January 2000 at the Computer Museum History Center at Moffett Field in Mountain View.

Bitmap for SuperPaint   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Both SuperPaint 2.0 and Digital Darkroom employ this technology which allows developers to add features to these products by writing some code and wrapping it in a file with a specified file type and a standard version identifying resource.
SuperPaint supports two types of plug-in modules, the term they use for their “externals”.
SuperPaint restricts sub-menus of plug-in to the range of 200-235, but it also will dynamically change the menu ID as necessary to avoid conflicts with other plug-ins.

 Whole Earth Review: FullPaint -Superpaint
This is a dream come true, marred only by the fact that SuperPaint breaks with many of the conventions of MacPaint and FullPaint and requires that you learn new procedures and command sequences for many of the same effects.
SuperPaint also lists at $99 (with street discounts similar to FullPaint's) and is a genuine bargain.
FullPainthas already had one since its initial release in mid-1986 (mailed free to all registered owners), while SuperPaint has some empty niches in its drawing-tools palette and is obviously waiting for new features to come.

In recent years, WoodScapes Premium House Stain and SuperPaint Exterior Latex paint have quickly moved from test products in Sherwin-Williams top-notch research and development department to coatings of choice for some of the best contractors in the business.
Sharpe is now seeing Duration follow in the footsteps of these two other coatings, as it is being added to more and more project specifications in the region.
SuperPaint has become an ideal complement to WoodScapes due to its advanced resin technology, which makes for a rich long-lasting appearance and proven durability.

His use of the words "new screen" and "new program" suggest that he sees the two layers as totally separate, and that he feels he must decide whether to compose his picture entirely in one layer or the other.
However, he still saw these tools as alternative ways to generate what could be done with pencil and paper in a much more straightforward manner, and although he liked the ability to generate straight lines quickly, he still found it hard to control them and to compose the picture he wanted with them.
It is a difficult concept for many users to become comfortable with, and I did not expect Arnold to master it in a mere 30 minutes; it would probably take several sessions and much tinkering with the program for Arnold to become comfortable with the behavior and to begin to take advantage of it.

[OS X TeX] Who should use (La)TeX - who is able to use it?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
- SuperPaint 2.0 used the standard PICT format (creator SPNT, type PICT), which both Preview and GraphicConverter can handle, and which both Adobe Illustrator and Denaba Canvas (to name but a few) can import and edit.
So if you've got SuperPaint 2, you can import older SuperPaint 1 files, save them in PICT format, and then rework and/or convert them using practically any Mac drawing application around.
SuperPaint 2.0 (from 1989) seems to work well on OS X in Classic (at least it doesn't crashes Classic), SuperPaint 1.0 (from 1986!) doesn't (it crashes Classic).

His colleague and friend Alvy Ray Smith collaborated on SuperPaint, and then went on to develop the first full-color paint program and much more at New York Tech in the late 1970s.
In this talk, Dick and Alvy will describe and demonstrate -- hardware gods willing -- the original 1973 SuperPaint graphics system, and a Windows-based PC emulation of the NYIT full-color Paint3 program, play some tapes, and tell some stories of their early adventures in pixel graphics.

Computer graphics pioneers Dick Shoup and Alvy Ray Smith discuss their seminal work on SuperPaint, developed by RS at Xerox PARC, and BigPaint, developed by ARS at NYIT, the world's first 8- and 24-bit digital paint programs.
In building SuperPaint, Dick Shoup not only wrote the paint program software but also put together the specialized hardware required to support a graphics application based on an 8-bit frame buffer.
Although experimantal in nature, SuperPaint was hardly a proof of concept.
