SuperValu is a supermarket chain in Ireland, owned by the Musgraves wholesaler firm.
However it differs from these chains in that SuperValu outlets tend to be significantly larger than the convenience store formats used by the other symbol groups, and the larger stores are on a par with the other full service supermarkets.
The majority of Irish towns have a SuperValu store, and for many parts of the country, it is the only retail chain in the locality.

In 1995, when my Department and the Northern Ireland Amenity Council first considered this joint initiative, the intention was to develop a new environmental competition that would allow communities from North and South to pursue a common goal – that of sustaining and improving the environment in which they live.
Ireland's Best Kept Towns competition has been organised and conducted in a spirit of respect, trust and friendship, though the underlying element of competition has been no less for that.
SuperValu retailers are an integral part of their communities north and south and for this reason we are very proud to be involved in this initiative.

A further €35m capital investment in logistics infrastructure is underway by the franchise operator, Musgrave SuperValu-Centra, on a new warehousing and distribution operation in Kilcock, Co Kildare.

SuperValu is operated by the Musgrave Group retail franchise division, Musgrave SuperValu-Centra, which services over 600 independently owned SuperValu and Centra stores throughout Ireland.

A similar approach is used for the Centra chain in Northern Ireland, but the pricing data is distributed to the stores once a week in the form of a booklet.
