		Although Superchunk's resistance to the overtures of the music industry may have deprived them of the wider audience their work clearly deserved, perhaps their greatest legacy remains their unwavering dedication to the indie tradition, a model which all up-and-coming bands should strive to emulate.
		Superchunk was formed in the college town of Chapel Hill in 1989 by singer/guitarist McCaughan, bassist Laura Ballance, drummer Chuck Garrison, and guitarist Jack McCook.
		In addition to Superchunk's relentless tour itinerary and prolific recording schedule, McCaughan released the 1994 LP I Hope Your Heart Is Not Brittle, the first full-length release from his side project Portastatic.

		Seems like Superchunk are destined to be a San Diego favorite for a while yet, especially if they keep putting out records with the catchy, energetic type of stuff that fills their recent No Pocky For Kitty record.
		Superchunk's sound is a fairly familiar one these days...they fall into that Husker Du meets Dinosaur, Jr meets Moving Targets sort of thing, but they do it so well that after the first couple times through their records you no longer find the comparison feeling so obvious.

		I've never understood the thinking behind paying money to see a band and then spending the set bashing around with your drunk jock friends, jumping on stage and leaping onto their groping hands, landing on your head, bothering everyone else around you, annoying the band and really missing out on the whole performance.
		Superchunk are the band that never lets you down -- always evolving and stretching themselves, doing everything themselves and PUTTING OUT live.
		If you only know Superchunk from their recordings, then you are getting only some of it -- their live show brings everything great about them out in the open.

		Since the band’s formation in the early ninties, Superchunk has been fighting the same accusations of willful obscurity that dogged REM for the early part of its career.
		The difference between the two bands (outside of units sold), is that while REM simply buried the vocals low in the mix, Superchunk buried the vocals low in the mix and turned the buzzsaw guitars up so high that some fans wondered if there were lyrics at all.
		The actual content of the songs has always mattered less to Superchunk than the setting of a mood.
