On the face of it, Supergrass are sort of lads who do not have a care in the world and would be great drinking partners and reliable mates - which comes out in their music.
So Supergrass are back after a disappointing last album, and they seem to have recaptured some of their rich musical form which brightens up the dullest of outlooks.

I think it may grow on me, but never as a 'supergrass album'......i would take it to work with me and listen to it while i work and stuff but im afaid i would be picking the other albums to play first.....i know they wanted to "grow up" but im not too sure about this.
This album is brilliant, however it has a few flaws it is much to short and the theme is to mellow unlike life on other planets that had rockier stuff like brecon beakons and ruch hour soul.

Supergrass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Supergrass are an indie rock band from Oxford, England who were at their peak in the Britpop era of the mid-1990s.
Supergrass' origins lie in the band The Jennifers, (not to be confused with the American band of the same name), formed at Wheatley Park School, which featured a 16-year-old Coombes on vocals and Goffey (then 18) on drums.
However, the critical response to the album was generally very positive, with one reivewer claiming you should "listen to Supergrass because life is too short not to"[2].

Supergrass have a hard time coming down from their musical highs.
They sprung back with 2002's Life on Other Planets, a truly wonderful pop album that was their best since their debut, but for 2005's Road to Rouen, they once again retreat from the bright colors and sunny melodies and turn toward darker textures.
They have never shown such control on a record before -- previously, their best albums were exciting because they went all over the place, and did it well -- and it's quite intoxicating to hear them ride one groove, finding different variations within it, for an entire album.

Supergrass ' debut album I Should Coco rushed by at such a blinding speed that some listeners didn't notice the melodic complexity of its best songs.
In fact, Supergrass has substituted the punky rush of I Should Coco for such sonic details, and while that means they only occasionally touch upon the breakneck pace of the debut (the hard-driving "Richard III"), they also deepen its joyful exuberance with subtle songs and remarkably accomplished musicianship.

The last few Supergrass albums have seen a creeping maturity enter their happy-go-lucky design, but on Road To Rouen - the Oxford outfit’s fifth album – there’s little trace remaining of the wide-eyed adolescents that barrelled so madly through "Caught By The Fuzz".
I find this album still typically Supergrass in many ways, they have an unmistakeable sound, but it is also quite different to their early material.
The first three tracks are excellent but then the rest of the album is almost in danger of tailing off into mediocrity, but is saved by the superb production and the fact that although Supergrass have a lot of influences apparent in their music, they still manage to sound very original.

That album was such a great capture, the sound of frenetic power-pop punk and completely irreverent teenage hijinks.
But what they did excel on was "Lose It" from the first album, a rollicking jam-out with a lot less of the braggadocio of other tunes from that era.

Supergrass grow up on this album because its not punky like 'I Should Co Co' instead a brass section features on quite a few tracks which is reminiscent of some of The Beatles later stuff; its also not quite as fresh sounding as 'I Should Co Co' and doesn't hit you quite as hard.

The album, which contains just nine songs, runs the gamut from "Zappa and Jimi Hendrix riffs" to "weird elements of Eastern Europe," from Talking Heads to country music, the band says.
They used zithers, ukuleles, brass, strings and a drum machine, and although Supergrass' new sound is all over the place, the bandmembers say they were much more focused in the studio: a converted barn with rudimentary recording equipment.
Inspired by the rustic surroundings, Supergrass tried to reflect that feeling in the album: For instance, they recorded the album's first single, "St. Petersburg," in one take.

Supergrass - Road To Rouen : album review
Greatest hits albums usually mark one of two things for a band - the end of their career or the signalling of a new direction.
When Supergrass' We Are 10 was released last year, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was the former.
A lot of this album could reasonably be described as that hackyned old chesnut 'Beatle-sque', but in a good way - rather than the usual lifts that bands such as Oasis have made a living from, Road To Rouen takes as inspiration the more interesting Beatles moments, such as The White Album.

Supergrass News: Pitchfork review Road to Rouen
On an album that resides mostly in slower tempos, it becomes clear just what a great singer Coombes is: He has a rich, nuanced voice that sounds great shouting or navigating a delicate melodic phrase.
Unfortunately, Supergrass doesn't really ever harness any of the momentum they create on individual songs to make a truly great LP, throwing away the peak they reach on the epic, six-and-a-half-minute power ballad "Roxy" on a meaningless, jokey interlude called "Coffee in the Pot".
There's a lot to love here, and Supergrass is still a killer band when they get in their groove, but there's definitely a noticeable lack of the hunger that once dripped from their music, no sneer to bring it all crashing home.
