  CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Lent
Such a theory offers a natural explanation of the wide divergence which we find existing in the latter part of the second century regarding both the proper time for keeping Easter, and also the manner of the paschal fast.
Christians were at one regarding the weekly observance of the Sunday and the Friday, which was primitive, but the annual Easter festival was something superimposed by a process of natural development, and it was largely influenced by the conditions locally existing in the different Churches of the East and West.
Moreover, with the Easter festival there seems also to have established itself a preliminary fast, not as yet anywhere exceeding a week in duration, but very severe in character, which commemorated the Passion, or more generally, "the days on which the bridegroom was taken away".

 Moiré Patterns
Moiré fringes are an interference pattern that is formed when two similar grid-like patterns are superimposed.
One of the more common occurrences of moiré patterns is found in computer monitors and television sets where we see an ordered wavy pattern is superimposed over the screen in a series of ripples.
Moiré patterns also are a common problem in scanned images due to interference between the printed dot pattern and the reflection of the image.

Alaska - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alaska is the largest state in the United States in terms of land area (it is larger in area than all but 18 of the world's nations) at 570,374 square miles (1,477,261 km²), over twice as large as Texas, the next largest state.
If a map of Alaska were superimposed upon a map of the 48 contiguous states, Alaska would overlap Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico and Colorado, and if the state's westernmost point were superimposed on San Francisco, California, its easternmost point would be in Jacksonville, Florida.
Alaska also has more coastline than all of the contiguous U.S. combined.

subtractive color A color reproduction technique which relies on superimposing process colors on a medium (usually paper or transparent projection film) in order to display a range of different colors.
The adjusted positions reduce or eliminate moiré patterns when more than one screened image are superimposed, as in color imaging.
Since the positioning of the marks is varying, a single mark with space around it (a « halftone cell ») no longer describes the screen in a repeated array.

So a delay of up to several seconds until the end of the respective sentence is required before it can be properly translated.
Secondly, the translator voice would be superimposed to the original voice and, if both are located in the same room, would result in a confusing babble.
The original voice could be filtered out, however, in this case the translated version could not have the same spectrum, and Picard might sound like Janeway.
