Congress established the Superior Court of the District of Columbia Court as the trial court of general jurisdiction for the District of Columbia in 1970.
The court is assisted by the service of 24 magistrate judges as well as retired judges who have been recommended and approved as senior judges.
The Family Court is divided into six branches: the Domestic Relations Branch, the Juvenile and Neglect Branch, the Paternity and Child Support Branch, the Marriage Bureau Branch, the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Branch, and the Counsel for Child Abuse and Neglect Branch.

The Sacramento Superior Court is pleased to announce the implementation of its voluntary Mediation Pilot Program as another option to the Court's Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Programs focusing on the timely resolution of civil cases.
The court, not the parties, will compensate the neutrals at a rate of $200 for the first 3 hours of actual mediation time.
The court anticipates referring cases to the mediation program sometime in the first quarter of 2007 and it will be operated as a one year pilot.
