Superluminal communication - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Superluminal communication is the term used to describe the hypothetical process by which one might send information at faster-than-light (FTL) speeds.
If wormholes are possible, then ordinary subluminal methods of communication could be sent through them to achieve superluminal transmission speeds.
Considering the immense energy that current theories suggest would be required to open a wormhole large enough to pass spacecraft through it may be that only atomic-scale wormholes would be practical to build, limiting their use solely to information transmission.

Human efforts to communicate with cetaceans and with other primates will be tightly constrained by the limited cognitive and linguistic ability of these animals.
Interstellar communication would have a latency of at least decades or centuries, while communication with an ETI presence inside the solar system would have a latency of at most a few hours.
Communication and information technology will supplement human teachers and make them more productive, but they will remain essential for educating children.

 604friends.com :: superluminal light pulse
Superluminal implies faster than the speed of light, and in this experiment the peak of the light pulse arrives at the output end of the medium even before it has entered the medium."
The first superluminal propogation of a light pulse through a medium created by man occured in the early 80's during an American Military experiment to increase component reaction time in large defensive lasers.
But as I said it is theoretical as we cannot exceed the speed of light that we know of at this point in time, except by an experiment which this post is about and that is just light travelling faster than light speed.

 SUPERLUMINAL INFOTONIC COMMUNICATIONS
According to the Theory of Relativity superluminal communication or transit is forbidden by the principle that nothing can travel faster than light.
First, the transfer delay of QSC is irrelevant to the communication distance, and can be zero in principle, thus QSC is the fastest communication means.
Secondly, the carriers of information may not pass the space between the sender and receiver for QSC, thus the communication process is not influenced by the in-between environment, and QSC is one kind of complete anti-jamming communication means.

Communication between realspace and vessels in hyperspace is essentially impossible except via hyperwave.
Sideways communications with a passing ship requires foreknowledge or luck to choose an appropriate sitting position near the ship's trajectory, and even then the vessel will flash past before much can be said.
The realspace object involved in a superluminal collision will also suffer destructive effects, though the detailed kinematics of superluminal collisions are not as straightforward or amenable to human intuition as interactions between ordinary bodies.

In fact, there are hypothesis on the obligatory existence of superluminal phenomena on nature [3, 4].
So, a superluminal X-wave radio message would achieve its destination almost in the same condition as when it were sent and no one, except the destination, could spy the content of the message.

Because claims that probabilities are irreducible it is not possible to send a superluminal signal .
The only way to model what is happening mathematically is for information to be transferred superluminally from one of the polarizers to the detector more distant from it.
Superluminal transfer of information without superluminal signals is only possible in a theory that claims probabilities are irreducible.

 Relativizing Relativity
This framework is discussed in three contexts: (i) as a scenario for superluminal signalling and motion, (ii) as the possibility of two or more ``light'' cones due to the a ``birefringent'' vacuum, and (iii) as a further extension of conventionality beyond synchrony.
They originate from the fact that, given superluminal signalling, signalling back in c-time is conceivable, making a diagonalization argument [17,18,50,42] similar to the classical liar [5] possible [62].
Accordingly, any experimental, empirical claim of allegedly superluminal phenomena is confronted with the strongest resistance from the theoretical orthodoxy, pretending on the principal impossibility for superluminal communication.

Principle of causality   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
Superluminal communication does not contradict, however, relativity so far as there is not any real motion of the particles (momentum transference).
Moreover, there is not in the strict sense superluminal information transference, so far as for it decoding in a receiver (effect) except of the nonlocal channel, in addition a classical local (subluminar) channel must be present.
Violation of strong causality does not lead to paradoxes, as advanced effects of only such causes are observed, which the observer can not operate.

Actually, whether superluminal speeds are possible in principle depends on the real structure of the space-time continuum, which contemporary physics ignores, however.
If superluminal signals are to be discovered in the future, then the notion absolute time will surely have to be reintroduced to physics.
Therefore, the possibility of superluminal communication (and thus FTL travel) has been acknowledged by various authors, eg.

It could even be argued that FTL communication makes FTL travel possible because you can send the blueprint for an object FTL as information then reconstruct the object, though not everyone would accept such teleportation as FTL travel.
FTL travel or communication should therefore also mean the possibility of travelling back in time or sending messages into the past.
The truth is that most physicists consider tachyons to be a sign of pathological behaviour in field theories, and the interest in them among the wider public stems mostly from the fact that they are used so often in science fiction.

As a consequence of this "programming," most ordinary human beings simply follow the conventional observances: their religions are made for them by others, communicated to them by their traditions, conformed to by imitation, and retained by habit.
As we have noted, all "primitive" or preliterate cultures had some form of codified communication between spirits and the living and only came under condemnation with the inception of monotheism around 1000 BC.
Of course, the real trick is to convince people that the "afterlife" is the only thing worth thinking about, and it is to this end that the monotheistic religions have been formulated.

Second, Chiao points out how fragile Abner Shimony's "passion-at-a-distance", which forbids controlled superluminal communication, really is. This is of practical importance since Charles Bennett's theory of quantum computers depends crucially on passion-at-a-distance.
However, these superluminal effects do not in fact violate relativistic causality due to the acausal nature of the correlations imposed by the superposition principle.
However, according to standard theory there is no violation of relativistic causality, since the front velocity of the tunneling photon wave packet, which represents the speed at which an effect is connected to its cause, is still exactly c [11].

Non-locality is the ostensible transfer of information at superluminal (faster than light) speeds, something that Einstein's theory of relativity, and countless experiments, tell us is impossible.
As an example of superluminal communication I will describe an experiment involving what is called quantum entanglement, in which pairs of particles are correlated even though they are separated from each other.
Some experiments have features that appear to involve the superluminal transfer of information which is interpreted as evidence for an instantaneous holistic universe in which everything is one interconnected whole.

Here we show that the assumption of finite-speed superluminal communication indeed leads to signaling when no LV are present, and more generally when only LV derivable from quantum statistics are allowed.
Moving to the case of three particles, we show that these alternative models lead to signaling when “hidden communication” alone is considered as the origin of the correlations.
Specifically, a communication of 2.19 bits is sufficient on average for the classical teleportation of a qubit, when restricted to von Neumann measurements.

The analogy you proposed certainly does not constitute faster- than-light communication, nor does anything that even remotely resembles that analogy, because it has a purely conventional representation.
The more serious question arises when dealing with genuine quantum entanglement, i.e., phenomena that have no conventional representation, and for which the conditional probabilities seem impossible to establish prior to the actual selection of a measurement basis.
I would argue that the answer is still a qualified "no" (no superluminal communication), but this has nothing to do with the purely conventional process that you described.

In fact, the subject of communicating with the past or receiving information from the future IS being discussed in physics even in terms of the flat, not-curved-at-all space-time of Lorentz and Minkowski.
Now, back to superluminal communication, or "channelling" in general and the Cassiopaeans in particular: the fact that sending information into the past is possible does not necessarily imply that any information that pretends to be sent from the future is such indeed!
It becomes the latest fad: everyone is communicating with themselves in the past to warn of dangers or upcoming calamities or bad choices, or to give lottery numbers or winning horses.

Instead we decided to continue the "communications" as a form of a controlled experiment in "superluminal thought transfer" — even if it was clear that the term should be considered as a tentative indication of only one out several possible interpretations.
It is a communication in which, by intent, the messenger is as important as the message itself; they are inseparably entangled in a quantum way; an interfering quantum amplitude; they form a oneness, a whole.

This is a typical "Bell inequality", and its violation illustrates that the questions presented by the phenomena of quantum mechanics are deeper and more profound than is sometimes realized.
Nevertheless, it remains true that no superluminal transfer of information is implied.
This is actually one of the most interesting features of this analysis, because it shows that in some circumstances our classical understanding demands that superluminal communication "must have occurred" in order to give the observed results, even though in fact there is no *effective* transfer of information at all.
