  CNS Movie Review: Superman Returns
In his absence, she wrote a Pulitzer-winning editorial, "Why the World Doesn't Need Superman," to show just how over him she is. But her thesis proves shortsighted as Superman's return rekindles old feelings; not to mention arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) is once again plotting mass destruction.
Superman's body may be indestructible to everything but kryptonite, but his heart is just as breakable as the next guy's.
At its heart, "Superman Returns" explores the relevance of virtue in a contemporary culture that is at once both cynical about idealism and hungry for heroism.

Superman Returns - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Superman Returns is a 2006 superhero film based on the fictional DC Comics character Superman.
Superman's return to Earth generates much of the character development in the film, particularly for Lois Lane.
Superman is rescued by Lois and Richard, flies into the stratosphere to renew his strength by direct exposure to the rays of the sun, and is ultimately able to prevent large-scale catastrophe by lifting the newly-formed landmass directly out of the ocean and throwing it into space, at significant cost to his health.

 Filmtracks: Superman Returns (John Ottman)
Superman Returns: (John Ottman) In the inevitable rash of superhero franchise resurrections, even the Man of Steel isn't immune from studio unoriginality and profit taking.
He gave Singer and the producers several options in Superman Returns, recording additional pieces, some of which loyal re-recordings of original Williams cues, that were ultimately rejected, but showed Ottman's intent for goodwill and may even be used in extended versions of the film on DVD someday.
Superman Returns is a success for Ottman in every regard, and should serve as a fine example of how to intelligently and successfully score a sequel or remake.

The whole point of the character of Superman is to provide a fantastic superhuman persona who is so alien and so vastly superior in terms of physical being, knowledge, and morality, that he becomes a mirror through which we are forced to critically examine our own social, political, emotional, and health problems.
Superman is concerned with more fundamental issues such as whether half the world's population is going to live out the day.
Yet he still manages to find time to rekindle a dysfunctional relationship with love interest Lois Lane, and to be inspired to prove himself with a flourish of light-speed heroic antics to regain his esteem among a people whose cynicism and self-contempt have apparently gotten the better of them (film snobs all?).

Reviews: Superman Returns - Christianity Today Movies
Superman Returns not only stands on the shoulders of the first two movies, it also retraces their footsteps, sometimes in small ways (e.g., numerous bits of dialogue are recycled here, and nothing new or fresh is done with them), and sometimes in very big ways.
What's more, the Superman of the movies has shown a remarkable tendency to shrug off his responsibilities—first abandoning his powers (and thus the safety of the world) so he could sleep with Lois in Superman II, and now abandoning the world altogether for several years prior to the events of Superman Returns.
Superman Returns is rated PG-13 for some intense action violence, including rescue from falling objects, machine gun fire (some of which bounces off Superman's chest), regular bullets (one of which bounces off of his eye, in close-up), and some beating, kicking, and stabbing with Kryptonite.

Superman felt dead and lifeless, more inhuman that is appropriate for a character that’s meant to be struggling with his human nature over his colossal abilities.
