A possiblity is to compare the price and interior room with superminis: the Yaris is definitely a supermini, whereas the Tata Indica is closer to a city car.

The appeal of smaller cars is growing in the United Kingdom as the prospect of fuel economy appeals to motorists.
Out of the superminis, the Ford Fiesta (replaced during the year by a new model) was the biggest seller in 2001, with sales of 98 221, followed by the Peugeot 206 with 97 887, and the Vauxhall (Opel) Corsa, which took third place, registering 93 792 sales.
Many of the new superminis do not compromise safety features for fuel efficiency and also have a wide array of extras, such as air-conditioning, ABS, airbags and CD players, that were usually only offered on bigger models.

Well, as cars go through transitions of dimensions it's even hard to explain what a supermini is. For me it is a car that is smaller than 3,7m however there might be some exceptions, especially when the car is the smallest in a group produced by a factory.
It is a small luxurious car rather than a supermini.
The first conclusion is that there are too few superminis available currently.

The Fabia I really like, again it's not really a supermini (golf+polo=a little too large) but it's so cheap and reliable, it deserves a mention.
Ibiza is ok, styling is better than most, but the vRS is the one to go for here for those on the budget, no doubt.
When it comes to Superminis all the major players produce good cars and its now a question of which one you want to "live with".
