  Methodological Naturalism and the Supernatural
Methodological supernaturalism, correspondingly, is the practice of adhering to the kind of methodology a metaphysical supernaturalist devoted to fulfilling the aims of science would adhere to.
Third, I take the supernatural to designate the standard things like gods, fairies, ghosts, necromancy, divination, and so forth, all of which are united by the fact that they exploit materials or processes the basis of which extends or derives from beyond the physical universe.

Supernatural - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Supernatural claims assert phenomena beyond the realm of current scientific understanding, and may likewise be in direct conflict with scientific concepts of possibility, plausibility, or reality in general.
The supernatural concept is generally identified with religion or other unscientific belief systems — though there is much debate as to whether a supernatural aspect is necessary for religion, or that religion is necessary for holding a concept of the supernatural; see the nature of God in Western theology, anthropology of religion, and Biblical cosmology.
It rests on the presumption of the skeptic that supernatural events cannot or are unlikely to occur; thus, their description by the believer as supernatural is seen as the result of a process of deliberate or unconscious mysticism, thus, "supernaturalization".

Supernatural Agency and the Modern Scientific Method
In this type of appeal, the concept of supernatural agency is used, not in place of natural cause and effect processes, but rather in conjunction with these very same processes, where it is utilized to provide a sufficient explanation for their ultimate origin.
The idea of supernatural agency is very much at home in the third stage of the scientific method, as we saw in the previous section, since one can profitably utilize non-empirical explanans in the subsequent interpretation of empirical data without any violation to the Principle of Objectivity.
Supernatural agency fits in nicely here as well, because the very openness of the modern scientific perspective lends itself beautifully to the ever-present possibility that an unseen Being is somehow responsible for the characteristics and behavior of the physical world, of which we are an important part.

But viewed in relation to the human he is supernatural; that is to say, spiritual union with God transcends human nature and all its dynamisms absolutely.
The first meaning of 'supernatural,' then, is 'utterly transcendent to the human and everything finite.' But the end of human existence as known through revelation is personal union with God, a spiritual 'possession' in knowledge and love.
The idea of the supernatural depends on a concept of nature that is itself closed to the end of human existence promised in Christianity.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Supernatural Gift
The Fathers have not hesitated to call supernatural union of the creature with God the deification of the creature.
It may be well here to say a few words on the preternatural (relatively supernatural) gifts bestowed on our first parents, which are sometimes confused with the supernatural gifts properly so called.
In point of fact these gifts were not conferred apart from the supernatural gifts; a preternatural state is, however, conceivable, and the separability of the two sets of gifts is clear from our now possessing the supernatural without the preternatural gifts.

In theology supernatural implies a separation between divine beings, spiritual beings, or human saints on the one hand, and nature on the other hand, in virtue of which the normal procedure of nature supposedly can be interfered with -- a conception which is an absurdity from the standpoint of theosophy.

Indeed, walking and driving tours of historical, contemporary and supernatural interests are an extremely important part of Charleston’s thriving tourism industry, which brings in $4.5 billion annually to the city and surrounding area, according to the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
However, while the number of “Haunted Charleston” tours has increased, supernatural tourism is a niche market and its economic impact is not tracked by the bureau, says a spokesperson for the CACVB.

While supernatural short fiction of the Americas belongs to the broad category of the fantastic, which is generally approached synchronically, reading audiences of the past 200 years have shifted their beliefs about the supernatural several times.
While nineteenth-century readers understood science as real and the supernatural as imaginary, modern audiences recognize both as inaccurate, a shift which allows authors of supernatural fiction to celebrate premodern indigenous beliefs which were once disdained by a materialist culture.
This book situates supernatural short fiction of the Americas within the changing cultural and epistemological contexts of the last 200 years and explores how authors have drawn upon a wealth of indigenous traditions.
