Superpower - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A superpower is a state with the first rank in the international system and the ability to influence events and project power on a worldwide scale; it is considered a higher level of power than a major power.
China and India appear to have the greatest potential amongst all the other nations of achieving superpower or near-superpower status within the 21st century and are often termed as emerging superpowers.
However, others doubt the existence of superpowers altogether, stating that today's complex global marketplace and the rising interdependency between the world's nations has made the concept of a superpower an idea of the past and that the world is now multipolar.

A superpower is a state with the ability to influence events and project power on a super scale.
The term "superpower" was first used in this context in 1930, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, but did not pick up as a primarily descriptive term for the USA and USSR until the immediate postwar years (in the 1920s the term was used to describe electrification).
The Soviet Union was not just a superpower rival, but also an ideological rival, representing the ideology of Communism in opposition to the capitalism of the west.

This article is about the post-2003 use of the phrase, "Second Superpower." Prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union, this term and the related term Second World were sometimes used to describe that nation and its satellites.

The American superpower status derives from our emergence from World War II as uniquely powerful in every respect, still more so as the only superpower from the end of the cold war in the early 1990s.
Superpower syndrome did not require 9/11, but the attacks on the twin towers and the Pentagon rendered us an aggrieved superpower, a giant violated and made vulnerable, which no superpower can permit.
A superpower's victimization brings on both a sense of humiliation and an angry determination to restore, or even extend, the boundaries of a superpower-dominated world.

SuperPower took us into a part of everyday happenings unseen by most regular Joes and allowed us to run a real world country and effectively blow everyone up (if you were strong enough).
What SuperPower didn’t have though was a great interface and stellar globe of the world (SuperPower had a 2D flat map of the world, Superpower2 has a 3D globe) however it did give you a great fix of “blow somethin’ up” though it wasn’t nearly as pretty.
