Topic: Suppressive fire

Suppressive fire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Suppressive fire is a term used in military science for firing weapons at or in the direction of an enemy with the primary goal of reducing their ability to defend themselves or return fire, by forcing them to remain under cover.
Suppression of enemy fire is vital during troop movement especially in tactical situations such as an attack on an enemy position.
Suppressive fire can also be delivered using other weapons such as assault rifles, but the volume and intensity of fire generated is less than that of machine guns, as the rifles overheat more rapidly and require reloading more often.

Rate of fire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For manually-operated weapons such as bolt-action rifles or artillery pieces, the rate of fire is governed primarily by the training of the operator or crew, within some mechanical limitations.
Good past examples of growth in rates of fire would be the enormous advantage of the Maxim MG, which provided accurate and steady, offensive or suppressive fire.
Machine guns are typically fired in short bursts rather than in long continuous streams of fire, although there are times when they must be fired in very long bursts.

Fire Superiority means that one side is able to fire more rounds and/or more accurately than the other who becomes 'suppressed.' 'Pinning down the enemy' can be complicated and difficult, or simple.
Fireteam leaders tell their teams where to concentrate their fires, team members yell out when and where they see the enemy, everyone yells out when they are running low, or reloading, when they have taken cover and firing (so the other person can get up and move).
Firing from the shoulder (since they are closer it is much easier to hit) the Marines charge into the enemy positions and engage them in close combat.

Correct use of three round bursts and automatic fire.
Bursts will be fired only when beating off an enemy assault, making a counterthrust (against a penetration, in close combat), or at very short ranges during combat in trenches, towns, or woods.
While manuals state that such weapons should mainly be used to fire 3 round bursts in practice this may not be done in the heat of combat.
There may be merit in experimenting with semi-automatic suppressive fire with such weapons and reserving fully-automatic fire for definate targets.

I think an excellent way to continue to have the idea of suppressive fire intergrated with the game, but do away with "Spam" is to have more dynamic spawn points, so the opfor can't get that 5 second 203, but keeps it so it can be used to help their team obtain it's objective.
