At the outset of the proceeding, the attorney for the appellants, Retired Judge Fakhruddin Ibrahim, told the court that he had come not to seek a judgment as to whether Ahmadis should be called Muslims or not.

The new bill was backed by Pakistan's main alliance of fundamentalist Islamic parties, the hardline MMA (Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal or the United Action Party), which rules the province.

The Full Court meeting was held in the Supreme Court Building at Islamabad yesterday which was presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and attended by the Judges and Registrar of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday ordered the government to provide information by December 1 on missing persons, most of the disappearances involving people active in politics.
The chief justice said that the court should be told how many are missing and what steps the government is taking to trace them.
The issue of disappearances in Pakistan came to the fore after the body of journalist Hayatullah Khan was found in June in a tribal region in North Waziristan region.
