Supybot, a Superb Python IRC Bot
One of the primary reasons Supybot was written was to give Python programmers a better option for writing IRC bots — the framework since developed makes writing new plugins simple and easy.

Snakes are well-known to eat eggs on occasion--every primary school kid has seen the picture of a snake wrapping its jaws around an egg at least once.
Since Supybot is written in Python, a snake-based logo seems appropriate.
Additionally, since one of Supybot's primary competitors is the Eggdrop bot, it seems appropriate for our snake (Python, the power of our source) to be eating an egg (representative of Eggdrop).

Using the guide I linked to the other day, I was able to create my first Supybot plugin tonight.
The plugin I wrote is just a simple dice-roller that accepts dice/modifier combinations such as 2d6+1, but it really wouldn’t be any harder to write something much more complex.

Code developed here has been contributed to the main project in the past and further contributions are planned, but this site should not be considered anything but an auxiliary source of plugins.
A wiki is provided for supporting discussions for these plugins only, all other discussions should take place on the main Supybot project forums.

Supybot has nested commands — Supybot Website   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Supybot isn't just written to be useful; it's written to be useful in ways the original developers didn't foresee.
One way that Supybot can be so useful is by allowing the output of any command (or commands) to be given as arguments to other commands.
Commands can be arbitrarily composed in this way to build even more complex commands, without ever touching Python code.
