Surah 81 - The Darkening - at Takweer - by Syed Qutb
The surah is also a gem of striking images drawn from the universe in both its present beautiful condition which is familiar to us and its condition on the Day of Resurrection when every familiar thing is changed beyond recognition.
The surah aims to get this idea of the inevitable upheaval well established in men's hearts and minds so that they may attach little or no importance to the values and riches of this world, though these may seem to be of lasting consequence.

This surah also refers to the story of the tribe of Thamoud and their negative attitude to the warnings of Allah's messenger to them, and their killing of the she-camel; and finally the collapse of Thamoud and their complete annihilation.
There is hardly one surah in it which does not encourage man, in one way or another, to communicate with the universe, in their secret language, so that he may appreciate its signs and understand its address.
The surah moves on to state the basic truth about man, and relates this truth to the various phenomena of the universe, for man is one of the most remarkable wonders in this harmonious creation: "by the soul and its moulding and inspiration with knowledge of wickedness and plety.

Surah 9: The Repentance, The Disavowal - Overview
Logically this Surah follows up the argument of the last Surah (8), and indeed may be considered a part of it, although chronologically the two are separated by an interval of seven years.
It was among the last of the Surahs revealed, and though the Prophet had directed that it should follow Surah 8, it was not clear whether it was to form a separate Surah or only a part of Surah 8.
It is now treated as a separate Surah, but the Bismillah is not prefixed to it, as there is no warrant for supposing that the Prophet used the Bismillah before it in his recitation of the Qur'an.

 Surah 4 : 34-35
Surah 4.34 is probably the most controversial verse in the Qur’an, because it appears at first sight to give Muslim men permission to beat their wives.
Surah 4.128 we have already seen: ‘If a woman has reason to fear ill-treatment from her husband, or that he might turn away from her, it shall not be wrong for the two of them to set things peacefully to rights between themselves (ie.

 Commentary on Surah 8
Surah 8.12 was hardly revealed to give carte blanche for Muslim extremists to rush off and strike out at and destroy all unbelievers willy-nilly, but refers specifically to a particular historical event, to the Prophet (pbuh) urging on his troops before the Battle of Badr.
Therefore, although it looks as though surah 8 comes near the ‘start’ of the Qur’an, it was in fact revealed at Madinah in 2 AH, after the battle of Badr – and some 14 years after the commencement of the revelation of the Qur’an.
In Surah 75 the reference is to our reconstruction as living beings in the Life to Come, beings unable to escape the Judgement of God even though we may have died and rotted away.

Prior to Surah Lahab, the glad tidings of the victory of the Islamic forces are already given in Surah Nasr.
One thing that should be kept in mind is that this surah was not necessarily revealed because someone had inquired from the Prophet (sws) about the attributes of God; but as is indicated earlier, the very circumstances in which the question of Tawhid had become a burning topic were enough to cause its revelation.
Indeed, the anger and the venom they had for this surah was because the concept of Tawhid expressed in it had made a direct hit upon their beliefs.

 THE FIFTH SURAH
The surah begins with a call to the believers to fulfil their spiritual and social responsibilities, and ends with a reminder, of man's utter dependence on God, whose is "the dominion over the heavens and the earth and all that they contain".
This latter warning is necessitated by the fact, repeatedly stressed in this surah, that both the Jews and the Christians have abandoned and corrupted the truths conveyed to them by their prophets, and thus no longer adhere to the genuine, original message of the Bible (verse 68).
At the time of the revelation of this surah Mecca was already in the possession of the Muslims, and there was no longer any question of their being barred from it by the Quraysh, almost all of whom had by then embraced Islam.

All the Qur'anic Surahs that follow Al-Fatiha either clarify the beliefs or explain the meaning of "Praise be to Allah, the Lord of al-alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists)" and the meaning of "The All-Merciful, the Ever-Merciful" and that of "The only Owner (and the only ruling judge) of the Day of Doom".
Surahe Al-Baqara), composed of 286 ayahs, explains one expression in Al-Fatiha, "other than that of the ones against whom You are angered, and not (that of) the erring." and a whole Surah, Al-'Imran, sheds light on "not (that of) the erring."
This Surah appeases our fears and reminds us that the origin of this universe is Allah's grace, and that the basis of the relationship between Allah and His worshippers is mercy.

 The basmalah between two surahs
There are four ways of completing a surah and continuing on reading to the next surah with the basmalah in between them.
The reader ends the surah, joining it with the appropriate vowels with the basmalah, continuing with the same breath the reader then joins the basmalah with the beginning of the next surah.
In this way the reader finishes the last verse of the surah, stops and takes a breath, then reads the basmalah joining it in the same breath and proper vowels with the beginning of the next surah.

 The Surah Al-Hadeed 57
The core message of this Surah is to exhort the Muslims to spend in the cause of Allah.
The Surah particularly deals with the Divine attributes, Latif (Benignant), Sami' (Hearing), Malik (King) and Raheem (Merciful), and gives sound and solid arguments and reasons to prove that Allah is Holy, He hears the prayers of His creatures, He is Merciful and He is the King and Ruler of the whole universe.
This Surah gives instances of Prophets Abraham, Noah, Hud, Salih, Lot and Shu'aib, and how their people rejected the Divine message and were punished, because it is the invariable law of Allah that the arrogant and the wicked disbelieves are punished for their rejection of truth.

Surah al-Nurayn & Surah al-Wilayah: Their Authenticity & Literary Style
In this book, two additional surahs and verses are mentioned that are not to be found in the official text of the Qur'an.
The only two Shi'ite surahs which have come to light are obvious forgeries; the other omissions that would have been dictated mostly by dogmatic considerations foreign to the 'Uthmanic period can not be substantiated, and the Shi'ites themselves have never been able to agree on the alleged distortion of the sacred text of their adversaries.
Surah al-Walayah and Surah al-Nurayn are considered forgeries by both Shi'ite and Western scholars.
